We used to give my kids who go to College packed lunches but we have started to just give then £3 each. The fillings they like ie.tikka chicken pieces, ham were just getting too expensive. Then add on crisps, drinks, chocolate and fruit and it worked out way more than £3 a day. They can get a hot meal for that and they take water bottles with them. Now I just have to explain to my youngest that Dairylea dunkers are not an integral part of a packed lunch!!!
I do that with my DS1 who is 16 and at college he he has £2.50 and will often go into town and get a mega breakfast bun for £2, he takes a drink with him and saves the difference to use on other days when the choice is dearer, and once a month they go to the lunchtime carvery special at £3.50 at the local pub.My self & hubby; 2 sons (30 & 26). Hubby also a found daughter (37).
Eldest son has his own house with partner & her 2 children (11 & 10)
Youngest son & fiancé now have own house.
So we’re empty nesters.
Daughter married with 3 boys (12, 9 & 5).
My mother always served up leftovers we never knew what the original meal was. - Tracey Ulman0 -

Hi Gailey does your mum live in Abergavenny by any chance? I live near there but love it. Has a b&m bargains an wilkinsons. Can't think of any boarded up shops at the moment the ones that closed have reopened as something else. possibly a morrisons being built in the town and Asda & large tesco not too far and do online delivery or free bus. I wouldn't trade my rural life for town but they both have downsides!
Hi yes abergavenny mum keeps moaning places keep shutting down.
But I havent been in aber town recently she never tells me when some opens just hear her frequent whinging. my aunt loves b&m I think its quite good, wilkos quite good too I used to work there when it was safeway.
My mum does mostly tesco.shes bit of snob when comes to farmfoods.
she sometimes goes up brynmawr asda or asda cwmbran.
she used to do big tesco ebbw vale.
They been on about building supermarket for last 15years on old cattle market site.but never seems to happen.
Think aldis been permitted to bo build at old tyre place opposite bus station but turns out sites contaminated with japenese weed so has to be left for up to 2years.
It is pretty town lots mountains.
but schools are bit rubbish
houses expensive
very few jobs within the town.
least its got cinima again but has lacked a lot of stuff so mam goes hereford or cwmbran
I got used to city life now but hubbys bristolian and years to live rural guess we always thing grass is greener. I like fact so much to do with kids whereas abergavennby was so boring as kids and pubs were always full with mostly underage drinkers.pad by xmas2010 £14,636.65/£20,000::beer:

Hi me again. Forgot they have just begun building the Aldi Can't wait. It will be great as its the one place I really miss there is a home bargains near the Asda so I think we will be sorted! We have an adventure farm nearby and you can buy a season ticket which is really good value if you have little ones. Also play barn in abergavenny.
Sorry Gailey you will think I work for the tourist board!!!!! I just love living here and have lived in a big town fora lot of my life but this is better. I am sure where you are is good for you.
By the way I admire you for all you do in your life and hope 2012 is good for you and your family - just don't tire yourself out, enjoy life as you never know what's around the corner.0 -
Aldi butter has gone up to £1.25 a block which is bad news. I know Mr T Value is still £1.19, but I don't like it. I got so desperate to try making my own butter I bought two 600ml pots of cream from Mr T for £3, I am hoping that I will still come out on top if I can get the equiv of three packs out, and I want to make so I know how for when I do get some cheap cream! Butter Ladies - can I put it in my Kenwood and should I use the wire or the K whisk?
.
Mrs Chip when I did mine last week I used the K beater in my Kenwood Major mixer, I used 1500ml cream and got 800g of butter, and 1½ pints of buttermilk. Just be careful when it goes "thunk" as the butter milk comes out as it can spray everywhere. hthMy self & hubby; 2 sons (30 & 26). Hubby also a found daughter (37).

Well, I couldn't wait, so made butter in the Kenwood, used both wire whisk and K blade, and both worked!
From the two 600ml pots I got 578g of butter and a pint of buttermilk. I think I am just about even on cost. It is a magical thing to watch, where does that yellow colour come from????. Anyway OH very happy to have the knobby end of his HM bread with my HM butter - how sad are we? Tomorrow I will make scones with some of the buttermilk - anyone know if it freezes? Just got to get me a Jersey cow and we are sorted!

Thanks Mama - you are right re the buttermilk :rotfl:!Think big thoughts but relish small pleasures0

I'd have thought the wire, as butter is basically over whipped cream, but this thread...
