My butchers warehouse was closed today :(

I did the veg shop at Aldi. The Aldi super 6 is great huh?! a bag of carrots for 39p! I'm not convinced of their staying power so off in a mo to blanch a load of carrots and broccolli. Got a great deal on 4 leeks in there too 89p. We paid £2 for two in Morrisons 2 weeks ago. Also managed to get myself some ditsy woollen tights knocked down is Tesco but my, their meat prices are horrid. I can't afford to meet those prices week in and out. So Aldi shop £30 and Tesco £24. Not bad really, for a family of four and packed lunches (dog food in that too)

My eldest is staying at her grans tonight so we just have the little one. It is sooo relaxing just having 1 child. We made gingerbread men. It was nice :) Little one going to Grans tomorrow so I'll have eldest, we're off to walk h dogg and feed the ducks.

I need to go iron because the flylady thread said I should :( I really don't want to lol.

I have new avatar... flowers, crochet bunting, tights, shoes, skirt and an apron. Not very interesting but pretty much sums me up ;)

Fuddle - I just did Aldi, but I got 2 leeks for 79p? I got ripped off! Did buy two bags of the carrots though as I love those little ones in casseroles.
Ignore the ironing part of flylady... I always did. No one sees your washing pile, they do see the floors. You'd be better off scrubbing them or something else you will look at all day!

Really wish I could get more one-on-one time with my kids...

Re diets, most GPs, dieticians and nutritionists will tell you the same thing... Women generally eat too many carbs, and one effect of carbs is that they act as a natural tranquiliser. So they keep you calm, but you probably won't want to move much! Most balanced diets contain much lower levels of carbs and higher levels of proteins and greenery than many people eat. And we need oils. I'm not keen on fat, and know when I'm not eating enough as my nails start to show the effects, so I now have capsules I can take when I'm off my food (along with a supplement shake with rice protein in) due to anaemia or medication.

Fuddle - the ironing isn't compulsory. Spend the first few minutes of your HHI weeding out anything that can survive without it. I find that when I'm doing my own ironing, very little makes it to the final round. When someone else is doing it, it's another matter entirely ;)

    Hi all

Can't remember who posted about poundland having seed sets/tubulars in Jan - just wanted to thank them as I have a set of 'normal' potatoes, salad potatoes and red onions. Plus as my garden space is limited I brought 2 potato grow sacks.

Wilkos also have 3 for 2 on seeds as well.

It resonated with me when a couple of you have mentioned about being more social this year. I moved back to my home town a year ago. My first 2 missions was to find a house and job (I was very lucky on both) and then it was to get the house sorted (still a WIP but I managed to get windows done, new boiler, new kitchen and had 2 leylandi chopped) I realised that I have completely neglected my social life. I have emailed my local WI about joining, however they state on their website that they are over-subscribed so fingers crossed that some members haven't renewed their membership.

i'm also looking into a local running club so that will be 2 resolutions in one!

Happy new year to you all - those battling/have family battling illnesses - sending much love and light to you xx

Someone blew up your camper van . Thank goodness you weren't in it. Thought I'd heard it all...
    .

Youngest son could have been in it as he was 18 and we had, had a few words with him over something or other, nothing that bad he is not a drinker and didn't do drugs thankfully, laziness most likely and he had been sleeping in the van past few nights. The fact he could have been in it when it did go up caused me more upset than losing the van. The bomb Squad said the nutters were putting industrial strength fireworks in the letterboxes ( they did the one across the road at same time as our van) and they had put it into the exhaust pipe of dear old Betsy ( campervan). They told us it was only the fact they did that rather than break a window and put it inside that saved our house as Betsy had two big gas canisters in her, one in use and one spare and thankfully they were undamaged, but meant the fire brigade joined the melee although no actual fire at all, oh was a fun night. A neighbour did see a car stop by mine and someone jump over the fence disappear as they went into the garden and were hidden by house then come back after just a minute get in car and it drove off again speedily) but being my neighbours never thought anything of it ( everyone keeps themselves to themselves here, but plenty of nets twitch). We live in what is would be classed as a Middle Class area but we have had two shootings, one at a cafe not to far away and another just up the road and round the corner ( drug related was the word on the street but as no one was every caught we never fully found out and the people who lived in the house where the shooting took place only rented and vanished after it and we had a lead pellet fired through window, I was on pc ( before I had laptop) and this thing whizz by me as was sitting by window and found the pellet and then found hole in window, no sign of anyone, police reckoned it was kids firing out of a car as they had reports of them all over the city.

So GQ might not live in Shoebox Towers but certainly find life interesting round here. Yet to look at area its a perfectly respectable suburb. Did have a problem with yobs a few years ago as we have 4 shops just round the corner and one of them changed from a Greengrocers to an Off License and it attracted yobs from another not very nice area, but thankfully they have either gone back to their area or gone to annoy some other one.

Actually got my holly bushes out into ground and de-poohed garden and it stayed dry :j

Still not done my budget for the year. Been searching to see if council are offering any basic dress making classes as bought a sewing machine last year but not done any sewing since I was at school so need a refresher course but as usual all decent classes for anything are in North of the city, miles away, more wealthy areas in the south so they tend to think we don't need much in the way of anything, better not get onto that:o
Need to get back to getting finances under control now kin kid at uni as savings are zilch

Ironing? what's an iron? :rotfl::D;)

Well I've done absoultely nothing all day, or yesterday and floor space is getting even more limited! No heating on though as not cold; not sure why as I felt cold yesterday and temp was higher.

GQ I have a shoebox too, and also have a table top freezer; it's amazing what I can stuff in there...admittedly stuff falls out when I open the door. :rotfl:

Everyone I seem to talk to don't iron! Their clothes look absolutely fine to me but if I was to put one of my non ironed delights upon my back I would look like a crimpled, crumpled sheet!

    How do you do it?

Have you had the stuff we discussed checked out? I recall you were going to annoy your GP into doing some tests, or camp out in the surgery or something till they agreed...

Porridge is good for lowering cholesterol :) and maybe you need to eat more kale to have more energy :p

Mrs Chip I am glad it worked for you and yes anyone embarking on a diet should really see their doctor first. my Brother did the Atkins for a while and it did work but he became ill due to other things so abandoned it.
