Thank you also for your kind comments Prepareathome. I looked into writing a book for the kindle or even self publishing an actual book. It looked like it was a fair bit of effort with precious little potential for profit. Maybe I'll look again in 2012.

You can call the mincemeat drops whatever you like. Given how many your family are getting through they're the "mysterious vanishing mincemeat melts"!

Sorry to hear about your DD Kidcat.

For turkey defrosting I bought a 3.4kg frozen turkey and they said on the pack to give it 48 hours in the fridge. When I took it out it was still frozen, so I gave it another 4 hours on the counter which was fine then. I don't know if that helps at all or not!

Morning all! I am feeling very tired today as i had a lousy nights sleep for some reason. Given that i had the best weekend i've had all year, I don't really know why.

Twas me burfdee yesterday and the kids were [STRIKE]threatened[/STRIKE] asked to behave nicely on our family day out. Nothing fancy - a walk in the moorlands and lunch in the pub. Came home for a soak in a bubbly bath and we all watched a bit of telly together. Generally doesn't happen in our house, where it isn't unknown for us all to be in different rooms, but it was lovely and we have all vowed to do it again soon.

So the countdown begins - I have to get my birthday out of the way before i can start to get really interested in christmas (tho pressies still have to be sorted beforehand). Kids have gone to work with OH today until 2 so i have a bit of time to run round doing last minute things - though i am nearly done now. Most of the week is sorting out house and cooking as family invading on Saturday - tho i have got the works [STRIKE]pi[/STRIKE] er booze up on Weds

GOsh, but it's dark here - I think there's a lot of rain in that sky. 8.00 in the morning and it looks like night time still.

Right lots to do - but maybe a coffee first. Have a good day all.

  • Indeed I have been reading the thread on my phone as and when able Greyqueen., and as you did last time you've all kept me sane.

Operation spleen removal went well and am talk of the ward as my spleen was bigger than a rugby football & weighed an estimated 6 kilo (lab will say for certain when test reports come back! Have only had one day of proper food but ended up really sick so been mainly on fluids only with a drip for back up. am not at all sure it wasnt hospital food that made me sick - i have never in my life seen/eaten runner beans cooked for so long the colour was almost yellow -yuk!

Hospital has sense of humour though. I am in single room with en suite. Door to bathroom is opposite end of bed and has large mirror on it. So first sight of myself made me feel so sorry for poor soul opposite with tubes and wires everywhere, sporting an oxygen mask....then I realised it was me!

Lots to say but am tired now (much harder posting from phone than laptop) so back later.

  • vjsmum Happy birthday for yesterday :j:j I'm glad you had a lovely day.

GQ What a horrible position to be in. The thought of having to tell all those struggling people they will have even less money. Benefits do need sorting and is a real problem but the government just seem to attack the genuine cases.

The stigma you get as a single parent is awful (I was one for years) I worked part time and had tax credit top ups. In my case (and most people I knew in the same situation) The ex was chased half heartedly by the CSA a couple of times and he just hung on til the eldest was 16 by which time he was off the hook. IMO absent fathers should have a certain amount to pay towards their children and they should owe this money for the rest of their lives not just until the kids are older. If the lone parent has had benefits to survive the money owed should then go back to the state who has supported the absent fathers children. I am not having a go at men as I know a few absent Mothers who refuse to pay anything towards their kids

Oh it must be that time of year when DH and I are fed up with Ex's :rotfl::rotfl:

I have managed to keep the top of the Christmas tree decorated and the moggies have demolished the bottom half already :rotfl: I was expecting this HOWEVER I did not expect the biggest kitten to run across the room and lunge straight into the middle of the tree and then go back for another go to see how high he could get :eek: The kids think this is highly amusing :rotfl::rotfl: Roll on next year when they are all grown up and the tree gets a fighting chance. By next year it will probably be more gaffa tape than tree :o

Decs have 75% off at B&* if anyone needs any. Had a call this morning from a friend who works there.

No DGD today as SIL is off poorly so only the three boys and four moggies to sort out today. DH was quite happy to go to work as the Mega Beast is off today and tomorrow :D

Hi taurus, we are arranging an SAS type assault on your hospital to deliver edible food ...ok....listen out for a helicopter..... and open the nearest window.....:p

All quiet here, I feel a baking session coming on. I think all is done for 'the day' except Mums pressie, no doubt I will get divine inspiration as usual and pick something up in time. If not few bunches of whoopsied flowers will be re-wrapped and served up as a bouquet.

  • Hey all

I love the tougher threads :) We're finding it really, really bloody tough atm, can't quite bring myself to write down all the reasons why (far too depressing..) but coming here and reading these makes me feel like we're not alone :)

Keep on plodding everyone, and keep warm (frosty here in the SE this morn!)
    xx
