I use 30g porridge but I don't weigh it as this is a faff first thing in the morning. I found a small dish that holds just this amount. 1 dish porridge, 1 dish milk, 2 dishes water. Stir and cook on high for 2 minutes. Stir and cook for one more minute. You will need to use a big container as it will rise up quite a lot when cooking. Add sugar/sweetener/honey/sultanas/apple to taste.
Oooh! Just finished last of the cards and it's snowing :T
Works with just water BUT make sure that you use a very large container in the microwave as it expands even more than when making it with milk and water otherwise you will spend a lot of time cleaning your microwave.0 -

yes but in that time I can make our sarnies, drink my tea , sort out some fruit for my lunch and check what we are having for dinner whilst the 'porridge' is cooking by itself in my microwave. oh the luxury of time in the morning:rotfl::rotfl:

I must admit - its so easy to make porridge in a saucepan and as long as you soak the pan straight after, it doesn't even turn to concrete0 -
:D:D aye well... I have plenty of time.
Mainly because I dont make the bloody stuff, the RV does it !:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:
We steep the pot in cold water and leave it all day Frugal, by teatime the skin falls off .0 -
Porridge - make a big batch, water only and a bit of salt (finally got OH to accept that you don't need to use milk to make it delicious!), and micro it for breakfast the rest of the week. Only takes 5 mins anyway, I object to cereal co making money by convincing us real porridge takes ages or needs loads of additional carp to make it.
Katie - sorry to hear you news, I am sure you are a great comfort to your friend.
Gaily - stop beating yourself up - you are doing great, don't let others (why are family always the worst???) get at you or how you choose to live. Don't allow them to bully you, coz that's what it is, just because they are supposed nearest and dearest! When it comes down to it, you and OH and kids are your priority now, so you should do what is right for you and let the others get on with their own lives without causing you grief. I am afraid I have learned that however much you bend over backwards to accomodate people they will expect you to break your back.
I think you might gather from the above my mood has not improved much and I am now officially renamed Mrs Grinch :rotfl:Think big thoughts but relish small pleasures0 -
Thanks for all your oaty tips.
Feeling very low; have been tidying my daughter's flat as a surprise for when she comes home, for those that don't know, she's autistic but the powers that be decided she was very able to live by herself (although there is some back tracking now)...anyway, I have found paperwork for a loan she applied for, she's joined various organisations for £££, and is hoarding food (all the stuff she's not supposed to have). I am at my wit's end. There's washing everywhere; I don't know what's clean or dirty so washing everything. I know I will need to contact the support services and list everything. I just feel so sad for my daughter as she's not happy.
Gaily, do what you want to do for Christmas and don't let your family (mother, sister) be the measure of your worth. You sound an amazing mum, don't ever forget that.!
Katie, so sorry about your friend's cousin. Such sad news.0 -
BYatt - you have just voiced all my fears for my sons when they are older, and described both their rooms now (and any room they have contact with!!). ((Hugs))0

Gailey, I have been trying to please my Mum for 52 years and it really doesnt work, she has to accept me or tolerate me! yet its me she rings 5 times a day for support and not my bro who lives round the corner from her
Just been on a mercy dash to Dd's she has no heating and is waiting for the gas man to do his thing. We took her a spare heater. The roads and pavements here are like glass so we just sprinkled salt from the stash and got a de-icer out from the pantry that we bought when they were cheap in Spring and felt good that we were prepared. Dd.s partner has just lost his job - timing dude !!- as the restaurant is going under. He had a clue when 2 lots of bailiffs arrived last week. Luckily Dd comes from good stock and has done Christmas and has savings for just such an occasion.Clearing the junk to travel light
Saving every single penny.
I will get my caravan0 -
Gailey- you need to be strong.take our hands and stop being the emotional punchbag for your mum and sister,3 kids? You are so lucky,I've only been blessed with 2,but they are fantastic aren't they? I think I'm getting too old for more kids (38) and i'm a little set in my ways now! The first time you are strong with your folks will feel scary and amazing, draw strength from your kids, what sort of role model do you want them to grow up with? But whichever you choose we will still want to chat with you and hear about your christmas,I want to say we'll still love you, which is what I say to my Dad who is in a destructive relationship and still goes back to her,but i don't know you that well yet,but the sentiment is the same
xxxxxxxxxxxx
Hugs to you too Katie being there for your friend is the best thing in the world!
Byatt can social services step in a little more to help your daughter? It sounds as though she is struggling? Poor girl!! xxxxx0
