Three retentions !!

Had a SIM card from Three almost never used on a rolling monthly contract.

Called three to close the account, and hit a brick wall!

Retentions ask me to give the mobile to a family member, which I kindly refuse. But they don't take no for an answer and continuously insist no matter how much I tell them no.

Then they put me on hold for 20 mins (0844 number) probably in the hope I'll give up & go away. This process repeats itself every time I call.

Anyone had similar experience?

  • Ask them to throw in a sheep a goat a chicken and a cow to retain you as a customer just to see how much they will do to retain you lol.

    This is easy.

First, call 333 from the SIM itself - the call's free.
Second, when they ask why you're cancelling, say you've just been diagnosed with triskaidekaphobia.

Make unbeatable demands (iphone for £10 a month with free internet, free handset and free minutes and texts sort of thing). When they refuse keep on demanding- they left me alone quite quickly when I tried that with them!

Otherwise, go to a three store and ask quite loudly if they will call retentions for you. If they ask you to do this explain what has happened in a similarly loud voice (would work well on a saturday peak shopping time). If they don't help ask to speak to a manager.

These are some of the things I'd do anyway.

But otherwise- should be free to call 3 from your mobile on 333 and just keep saying you want to leave and that you no longer require their service, if they keep making you offers and refuse to listen ask to speak to a supervisor and so on. I got out fairly easily by making demands they could not keep and was very quick to dig my heels in but that came after years of anger with them tricking me into contracts I didn't want and so on. They caught me out before and I wasn't going to give them the chance to do it again.

Stick to your guns and just keep repeating the same "I want to leave and I am giving you 30 days notice, I would like this confirmed in writing"
  • post this experience on their blog and hopefully will get sorted ASAP. see http://blog.three.co.uk/
