Are you sure those aren't 4 seat reservations rather than tickets? 'Normally' (don't know about Virgin) there would be one actual ticket, plus 4 seat reservation coupons, plus a receipt, plus a coupon with your name and address.
  • The website would have given sufficient times for you to change at each change you make. Even though you have purchased split tickets it is still one journey made and if one service is delayed leading you to miss your connection then they have a responsibility to get you home regardless.

if you pop over to http://www.railforums.co.uk/index.php they have a full FAQ on this issue.

No, they are definately 4 seperate tickets, I was offered seat reservations but didn't bother with them. I received a printed letter saying enclosed are your tickets for journey A to B, along with the other details (I presume this is the receipt). There was a coupon with just my name and address on and then 4 tickets, 1 for each leg.

Thanks for this, I will have a look. It sounds like Virgin should be responsible for getting me home.

I'm sure it depends on the route, but there are some that won't even let you on if you haven't booked it for that time! Of course, if the OP has ordered an advance ticket then that counts as 'booked', but I wouldn't fancy 175 miles standing up :undecided

Edit: OK, being a Saturday may well be in OP's favour

Edit again: That said, it could be full of drunks!

As Badger lady has said - depending on the route. I know the last time I travelled on the east coast it was mobbed back down to London.. thank god for first class reservations.

Not necessarily - the train company that runs the train which was delayed is responsible

Well the only time I've done it the advance ticket was the cheapest I've ever had on that route and the train was almost empty - and on time

Most people will have gone earlier if they possibly can - probably on the Friday.

But it does depend on the route. Out of London is amlost certainly going to be busier than into London.

I guess I hoped that everyone would be tucked up at home waiting for Santa ;)
