Apply to same network after rejection?

I applied for an Orange contract last week and to my surprise was rejected on the credit check. I have now looked at my reports on checkmyfile.com and noticed my bank account address was ever so slightly incorrect and 1 of the 3 credit agencies didn't show me as being on the electoral roll. The guy I have dealt with at checkmyfile doesn’t see why I would be rejected as my credit rating itself is fine, so I have now put these errors straight so want to apply for a new phone again.

When dialaphone called me after I was rejected he said I would need to wait 3 months before trying to get another phone with Orange or would be instantly flagged and rejected. Can anyone confirm this is the case? I don't want to put another credit search on my file unnecessarily. Its just that Orange have a good deal and I like the idea of the swapables perk with Panther contracts and also getting Orange Wednesdays. The other potential contract to go for if it is true that I can’t apply to Orange for 3 months is with T-Mobile where I don’t get the same perks so would prefer to be able to go with Orange if possible. Also, given the T-Mobile and Orange have essentially merged now would anyone think they would use the same list of rejected applicants meaning a T-mobile application is also pointless?

Why don't you call Orange and ask them the questions? Vodafone wouldn't contemplate another application until at least 90 days have passed. I doubt T-Mobile would be linked in the way you are asking about but you need to be certain the errors have been put straight (seems a bit quick to achieve that) and see if you can find out why you were rejected (there could be other reasons) if possible.

I'd take it as a blessing in disguise. fate could be protecting you from an expensive mistake down the line...! Go PAYG or a rolling monthly SIM with no other commitment, there are too many people on this forum all trying ways to get out of their commitment!
  • Mobilejunkie - Thanks for the info on Vodafone, seems unlikely Orange would accept me in the short term then. I wasn't sure if they would speak to me to be honest, the email I had from dialaphone suggested Orange won't give a reason for why I was rejected but guess can't hurt to call.

In terms of my credit file the electoral issue has been instantly changed by the agency concerned and Natwest have updated my details on their system but you're right they haven't appeared in my credit report yet. However the support people at checkmyfile suggested as the address listed is my old address that I have to give as part of the application anyway that this shouldn't be a problem, so I'm tempted to try again now but with T-Mobile.

Buzby - Thanks for the reply but I have no problem committing to a contract, I've had 1 for the last 6 or 7 years but am moving to a new provider as 3 wouldn't give me a good deal to stay with them.

I'd call and explain but call Orange not dial a phone even if you call just to get them to creidt check and then don't go ahead with the contract.

I had a poor credit result from a check Virgin did, I got it fixed (the fault of Experia rather then me) and called Virgin to explain, they said I was good to go. In the end though they messed me around so much I didn't go ahead with the contract and cancelled the whole thing.

2 months later (though no fault of my own! I had been overcharged by a companies technical error) I had a banking charge hit me (the £28 plus £35 deal). Got that all sorted and refunded to me but was told it would affect my credit rating, when I tried for a credit card I was turned down and this was given as a reason despite it not being my fault.

About a month later I thought I'd give Virgin a go not thinking about the previous month I called and asked about the service, they credit checked me and I was all fine. I didn't have to wait the several days for the check either it was an automatic answer whilst I was in the store unlike before which had taken a week for them to run through, they do retain old information and use that and I'd imagine its partly due to costs and time. If you do call again get them to do the check fully again and explain whats happened making sure they run a proper check and not just on their own systems.
