Barclays closed acc without explanation

Options
They sent me the standard we will close your account by xx date in october without telling me why but I was still able to bank with them until this date. When I visited the a branch and tried to withdraw money I had difficulties withdrawing money and the cashier had to phone up her manager, the only thing I could pick out was T2 status.

Anyway today I went to lloyds bank to try and open a new account but I was declined because I failed the credit score and was told that I'd probably have the same problems without banks so she recommended that I should write barclays a stern letter asking for more details as to why they closed my account or check experian because they might have put something against my name. So I was searching online just now and noticed that experian requires a criedit card to register, which I don't have and well I've been reading online that people have written to barclays and it's taken them months to reply back so I'm wondering if there is anything else I could do?

I have had my barclays account for years now and online recently updraged it from a young persons account to a student account, I work part-time and pay for my contract through direct debit, I always make my payments on time so I don't know why barclays has done this to me, now I have no account to receive my wages into.

Are you sure that a Debit Card is not acceptable? *
    For telephone applications:
"telephone Application: the payment method is a credit or debit card specified by you."
    http://www.experian.co.uk/downloads/consumer/cfa.pdf
The link doesn't apply to a statutory report but if debit card is acceptable for one report why would it not be for another?

    * Sorry. The above is not helpful to OP who now has no bank account. I first thought that Barclays were going to close the account this month. It seems that the account was already closed in October.

Do you meet all of the conditions to hold the student account? If you have provided false information (or the bank suspects that you have done so) that would be one explanation.

If all else fails you can get a statutory report from Experian by post enclosing a £2 cheque or Postal Order.

BBC Radio 4's Money Box programme covered a case where NatWest closed an account opened for a baby because of fraud worries. The bank was criticised for making a warning flag the end of the matter and refusing to notify the family of an appeals procedure.

Sounds like they suspect you of fraud or money laundering. You will probably have a CIFAS marker making it virtually impossible to open accounts anywhere else
Debt free and staying that way!

You can get your report from the three credit agencies by writing to.them and posting a cheque/postal order for the relevent fee( think it is still £2)

It so easy to prevent this from happening to you by using a FREE system

The system was covered by MoneyBox earlier this year.

Click here for more information. (Check out the media links bottom right handside of the Home Page).

No one using this system has fallen victim yet to ID Theft (Application Fraud).

and how is this relevant to the OP, or are you just spamming your scheme again? We don't know yet that fraud has taken place
  • A very similar case happened to me. Lloyds closed my 3 x current acts and credit card without notification. I found out wen I was at Tesco checkout and my card had been blocked. I went to lloyds to ask them and they ring head office and jus gave me !!!!!!!! answers. I had been banking with them for years and said they couldnt do anythin. In current act 1 I had 1500, in current act 2=300 and current act 3=50 and I regularly trnfd cash between them and credit card bill was 400 and I had this linked payment to my current act. I
They didn't let my dd go thru 2 pay credit card bill and fined me for non payment and my money was in my current act which I cudnt get access 2 and they wudnt help me in branch and I had no money 2 pay rent or get food and i got so !!!!ed off and wen I threatened 2 call police and not leave branch if I didnt get my money they then asked me so many questions y I transfer money between my acts and who I transferred money to in my acts (I sent my bf some money 4 past few months and then he gave it back in same act cos he was short of cash till he got paid). They thought I was doing fraud or something y closed my acts, but if they stated it to me I wud respect the not making me suffer and have undue stress. But they dnt care if ur a longstanding loyal customer they can anytime refuse to give u service or close act even if u have high credit score and no probs on ur credit report like me. So I opened act with first direct instead who give brilliant customer service.
