Wife is discharged, bike belongs to husband who has only just gone BR and had his OR interview. When I joined, I needed a name. The forum members gave one to me...I am INAN

No, didn't have a car when went BR, i saved for it, its only an old corsa that cost £450, but we will just see what happens, we understand if they take it (the bike), as its an asset at the end of the day, we will just have to try and work around every day life, after all not everyone has cars/bikes ect do they.0

thats a shame , i thought id missed something.
hindsight is a great thing but did you not consider putting the DVLA details in someone elses name .
I wandering if because the car has such a low value and obviously is quite old or with high mileage not pleading with the OR when the office opens tommorow.
i understand your hubbie is embarrassed but id really give it a go, as then you will have showed how desperate you are.
If the car goes bump then you are really stuckif only life was a box of chocs0 -
hi...in my humble experience, I found small cheap basic cars much cheaper to run than any bike [apart from a Honda 125]....don't forget, fuel costs are just part of the overall price for personal travel.
However...has your OH actually claimed for any travel expenses on his SOA?
I suspect, if the OR has decided OH can use 'your' car to commute to work, then a contribution towards the running costs should show on the SOA.
I am surprised that...if your OH has shown/argued that the bike is needed to get to work, and it would prove a cheaper option than public transport....the OR has decided to not grant the bike an exemption as an asset.
OH did present argument to the OR, didn't he? Regarding granting his bike exemption? No, I don't think all other drivers are idiots......but some are determined to change my mind.......0 -
but did you not consider putting the DVLA details in someone elses name .
Won't have any effect...as it is pointless.....V5c clearly states, the person named is not necessarily the owner.....simply the 'registered keeper'....No, I don't think all other drivers are idiots......but some are determined to change my mind.......0 -
Right...no luck here i'm afraid...we rang the examiner today at 8.30 but he is off mon and tues...his manager finally rang us back, and told hubby that it still has to go.....simply because it is currently on SORN (he was off work for 6 months, so thats why it was SORN), hubby explained that he is putting it back on the road at xmas when we can afford it, BUT thats not good enough, her said hubby can buy it back...didnt say what price though, so hubby said we havnt the money, manager said, well you have money to tax and test it!!!!! hubby explains that it wont be as much as buying it back, but nothing would change his mind:mad:
The man collecting the bike rang this morning, and he couldnt understand it either, he gave hubby time to hear back from the examiner, then hubby rang him back to let him know he had to still come and collect it.
So one for anyone else...if you have a SORN vehicle it will simply go, regardless of circumstances.0 -
im so sorry, i feel for you.if only life was a box of chocs0

Right, crucial piece of info there, it is only possible to exempt a roadworthy vehicle, so the examiners hands are pretty much tied, by definition the vehicle is not on the road so can't be necessary for your employment.
Make sure though that you get all necessary expenses for the car into the ipa calculation as that is what you will be usingHi, im Debtinfo, i am an ex insolvency examiner and over the years have personally dealt with thousands of bankruptcy cases.
