I'm all for renewables and wind farms.
Never mind if global warming is real or not, when fossil fuels run out at least we will still have some energy to keep us going(even if it means we will be a low energy society, it is better than having nowt!)

Fortunately, we do actually have lots of good non-fossil fuel energy sources and a vast range of ways to save energy yet to be fully used.

Nuclear power is an obvious well established option, but not the only option. There are now plants which turn sewage in to natural gas or waste wood in to electricity. Solar thermal and geothermal are limited in the UK, but certainly can provide a lot of energy abroad, the upside for us being that countries with an abundance of these resources will be able to export energy in some form or another. For example their wood waste could be transported here for making power.

We can also hook up houses and buildings to district heating and make the power plants massively more efficient as their currently wasted thermal output can heat space and water.

People could in the future travel by high speed electric trains rather than petrol in cars, while electric buses/trams are widely available too for around cities and towns. Cars will always be needed or wanted by some people, but with decent public transport it would be much less than now.

So, I don't really think we're running out of energy, we're just holding on to inefficient habits and sustaining them with cheap fossil fuels. I don't see a future without energy, but one where it comes from significantly less and less fossil fuel sources, may cost a bit more and we use it less wastefully.

I would like to see how Daily Mail brigade would try to paint that technology as being some kind of lefty, green renewable loving plot to get hold of tax payers money.

    Maybe it causes cancer?
