Is it ok to keep the router switched off during the night and in the day when I'm not on the computer? I've been doing this for the past month or so as I'm trying to have no standby lights on when I'm not using the appliances, but I'm not sure if it's the done thing for a router. Thanks.
Be careful who you open up to. Today it's ears, tomorrow it's mouth.

Should work fine, it also means that there is less chance of people maliciously accessing your router while you are asleep.
Although constantly turning your router on and off could potentially break your router (depending on how expensive or how reputable the maker of the router is).
Routers don't generally use much power when inactive so I can't see it being a big problem leaving it on when you go to sleep or are not using it during the day0 -

That's funny, because in the past couple of weeks I noticed that the router now and then makes some loud clicks, which it didn't do before.
Also, I lose internet access once or twice a day for a couple of minutes or so, depending how long I'm online, but this has been happening also before I started switching it off. It's a Netgear supplied by Orange.Be careful who you open up to. Today it's ears, tomorrow it's mouth.0 -
Yes it is, but the question hinges also on what you expect from your ISP in terms of speed and if you are subject to a restrictive DLM regime. If your router re-syncs and don't get drop outs until it has settled down, then you are ok, it really should be simply the "right" thing to do.

I'm not sure what you mean as I'm not that techie. I'm happy with the speed and the rest, except the occasional drops but they're of short duration. As for the re-sync think etc that's Chinese to me.

Everything PC related is turned off when the PC isn't on, a PowerDown turns off the monitor, speakers, modem and wifi router. The only problem with this is I sometimes want to use the wifi with my mobile when the PC is off but can't0

It depends how much you are using your internet, as some broadband providers have a fair usage policy. I had this in my student accomodation last year where we used too much bandwidth and the service provider cut us off for a certain amount of time.
This might not be your issue, but turning an appliance like that off then on again isn't the best idea, as sometimes it coulds reset your settings (which takes more time if you have to reset them all again).
Switch it off if you really want to, but personally at home we never switch off our router (unless it is to reboot it if it crashes). I guess it is your call at the end of the day, but turning it off when you aren't using it will save a barely noticeable amount of power.0 -

Yes do join us
The re-sync is what causes the drop-out
As for the blue , if it is what you want don't worry
If it happened all the time then come back and let's see if one or others here can help
