Have you got the ME disk?
It might be worthwhile to reformat and reinstall Windows ME.
Start with a clean slate as it were.Dave. :wave:0 -

Does it still work in safemode?
what is listed if you run msconfig (in the startup tab)?Ever get the feeling you are wasting your time? :rolleyes:0 -
no it does not work in safe mode eitherAlways on the hunt for a bargain0

Having never had ME I can only point to a site guiding you through the install, here.
Once the installs complete, as long as you've got the drivers for your modem/router, you can download all your other drivers from the net.
You'd need to know what soundcard and graphics cards currently installed to obtain the correct drivers though.
If you've got net access on another computer, you can always come here for assistance if need be. There's plenty of people on here ready to help.Dave. :wave:0 -
The only thing I can think of, apart from a reinstall is to hold down the shift key as you start windows, or F8, forgot what's on the F8 menu in ME, but one of the options might workEver get the feeling you are wasting your time? :rolleyes:0

Hi Don't want to overload Susieb with posts while she is away but rebooting the pc several times may sort the registry problems out.... there may be a soft reboot button on the front of the pc, to do this..
BTW Safe mode is via the Ctlr key - earlier post..
Has the netgear wireless adapter been removed ?
MS site has this Windows Me Does Not Start in Safe Mode
Ruling out the Virus, CMOS battery and hardware conflicts leaves the followingMicrosoft_Technet wrote:If Windows Me still does not start in Safe mode, there may be a registry problem. To diagnose a registry problem, run the Windows Registry Checker tool (Scanreg.exe). 1.Restart your computer with the Startup disk in your floppy disk drive, and then choose the Minimal boot option.2.Type scanreg /restore, and then press ENTER.The Windows Registry Checker tool (Scanreg.exe) is not included on the Startup disk. When you start your computer with the Startup disk, the folder where the Windows Registry Checker tool is located (C:\Windows\Command) is added to the path. If Windows Me still does not start in Safe mode after you use the Windows Registry Checker tool, reinstall Windows Me in the same folder in which you originally installed it.
If you still cannot start Windows Me in Safe mode, install Windows Me in a new, empty folder. This is a troubleshooting step to help you determine if the problem is related to a remnant of the previous operating system, such as a configuration setting, or if the problem is a hardware problem.Rich people save then spend.
