I've just got a new TV and although the picture is excellent the sound is less than satisfactory. I was thinking about getting some better speakers but I'm unsure what to go for. I've seen a few sound bars in Richer Sounds but I was wondering if there are any other options. I don't really ant to spend a load on this so I'm looking at around the £100 mark (or not much over.
Suggestions please.......

any stand alone speakers will also need a Amplifier, and connects , and speaker wire, for which you are going to struggle on a £100 budget.
A soundbar from Richer sounds is probably your best bet for your budget.Better in my pocket than theirs :rotfl:0 -
if your just wanting front speaker and bass unit, can get get them from £60 from Argos, they are basic but would be better than the TV speakers. Currys have a 5.1 cinema system for £99.99, something along those lines may be worth looking at.

I've been researching the same thing tonight. I'd really like one of these Sharp soundbars, but 800mm wide is too big for our TV stand. So then I have been looking at the Tibo sound plinth from Richer Sounds, and this Lenco soundbar from Amazon, which looks very similar. And I have also found this Trevi soundbar too.
Not much in the way of reviews online for these last 3 items, can anybody recommend one of them at all?
PS: This ASUS model looks good too.0 -

Yeah, I was wondering if there were any other sorts of active speakers that would do the job. I would add that I'm quite limited on space.0 -
Don't forget to double-check your connections!
What outputs does the TV have >>> what inputs does your intended purchase have? , do you want surround sound?
Easy to slip up on these sorts of things!0 -
Good advice from Pikeyp above - work out how you're going to connect (in order of preference - optical digital, phono, headphone OUTPUT from TV) BEFORE you buy!
Also, active speakers? That's what a soundbar is.
If you really want to save money, why don't you just plug your TV into any stereo system you have that will sound much better than your TV, and possibly better than any £100 stuff?0 -

Actually, thats a very good idea. I have a Denon M31 amp kicking round unused that would be just the job. The speakers that go with it are way too big though. So I guess what I really need is some small speakers and a sub - any recommendations?0 -

The TV seem to have just about every output commonly used - not to bothered about surround sound - a 2.1 system will do.0 -
Brilliant. Get yourself down to Richer Sounds or similar. Or eBay or Gumtree and see what's around. If it's a stereo amp, you'll need a passive sub probably, which you wire from the amp, then from sub to speakers. You may also be able to get a set though. The smaller the speakers, the more you'll rely on a sub.0

No need to spend a load of money and get a separate amp to seriously improve the sound of a modern flat screen TV. Just buy a 2.1 speaker system designed for a PC and plug it into the headphone socket of your TV, or RCA line out sockets.
Using this with my LCD TV and the sound quality is transformed.
