Hi Fran,
Had the same problem with my very, very long haired white (not sure about a pedigree) rescue cat.
He came to us virtually bald after they had removed all the knots and matting in his fur.
This boy was an entire adult aged about 7 who had never been groomed. He has since been neutered.
The first year we had no option but to get him lion shaved at the vets 3 times.. second year , twice (all under sedation.)
Any attempt to groom him ended up in blood shed (mine).
Every time he returned after his haircut , he was like a spring lamb.. one very happy cat.
Only now, 3 years later , we are at the stage of being able to groom the top half of him .. go near his nether regions at your peril!
He now goes twice a year but only his under carriage is shaved . He is still sedated but while he is there he is given a complete comb out .
He now has got the hang of cleaning himself which helps a lot.
Using clippers anywhere near this big boy without sedation is a HUGE NO !
You have my respect0 -
