Can a BR be named on someones CC or DC during the year...

Hi

My situation is this......

1. I need to go BR - CCCS, payplan etc have all advised the same - to be honest i'm just putting it off until january since I'm away a lot in december (work and holiday to india) andwont be around for letters / meetings etc

2. I need to go bank rupt beause of my prior life with my ex - I was stupid enough to take on the debts in my name, we split, I'm left with unpaid taxes from our business and unsecured debt circa 60K notincluding taxes

3. I am with my other half who along with his main job runs a company in the same line of business I used to work - I now work for his company but take a very very low salary - no point working for more than min wage since I won't see any of it

4. I use a second card on his account in the mean time - currently not drawing a salary but will do when BR so I can meet the requirements - and yes we will set the salary to just meet them.

5. He wants to set me up on either his CC or his DC as a card holder so I can make payments in my name rather than having to get him to take over the phone to do so - think mobile phone, etc - DDs already go out of his account but its just if one off payments are needed I can't use his debit card without him there (Thank god for chip and pin I say - sorts out day to day issues)

So the Q is, can he set me up as a card holder on his account whilst I am BR?

    Yes and no.

A credit card - you can be a second card holder as the main holder is the one liable for the debt and is nothing to do with you. You are not credit checked for a second card holder on a debit card.

A debit card - mainly no, as these are attached to bank accounts and as a BR you wont pass a credit check on most of them and you will have to be credit checked in order to be a second account holder.

Some companies are BR friendly though so you can get your own basic bank account with the likes of the Co-Op and/or Barclays. (Co-op is better as it has internet banking).

If you have your own bank account then your wages can go in there and you can pay for those one off items yourself and regain some independance in your own finances.

Yes I'm lucky my new partner can support me - basically most of my wage will be rolled into his and I'll be drawing minimum

The need for a card in my name is for things like hotels and nails and stuff which as a bankrupt I can't get but we cam as a couple with his money rbut he and I don't want me having to ask him for it

Another reason not to go for a joint bank account is it will link him to you and your BR will affect his credit rating. Hence the advice to get your own Co-op Cashminder or Barclays Cash account. See the sticky at the top of the board labelled BR Friendly Bank Accounts for more info on these.

but say he paid 2k a month into that account for me to spend from his account - wont the OR want to know about that? that 2k is not my money its his money that he doesn't mind me spending, for example, but he doesn't want it going to my BR and nor do I.

I'd rather just continue to have to use online and automated lines and chip and pin than that

So you are saying that your wage will be set to cover the 50% of the bills you need to pay. So they will be paid by the company into your own personal bank account so you can pay those bills.

You also have to pay out for company business so that can be paid for by being an additional card holder on your OH credit card.

    Does that make sense.

If your husband is paying for you to have your nails done regularly, can he not set up an account with the shop and just pay on a monthly bill?

If his income is much higher than yours then your SOA will need to reflect that, i.e. he pays xx % towards all joint household bills.

  • my salary will be 50% of the bills that i need to pay plus allowances - into my bank account - probably the usual coop one

we can afford more as a couple but they are my debts so the rest is going into an account into his name -on which all tax and ni will be paid in his name at higher rate - and I can use that - we'd just like a card with my name on it so i can pay what i need as wanted. we'd prefer it to be a debit card but if it has to be a credit so be it

    i work for him

we can set my salary as we want via the company board

obviously two options: option 1 - set maximum circa 70k and I pay into the BR for the next god knows how many years

option 2 - set it at minimum wage on 16 hours to cover my personal expenditure and I pay nothing........

but trying to avoid me having to get him to ok everything I pay for over the phone
