Why send a cheap item RD?

I paid £3 the other day for something with free 2nd class standard delivery.
They sent it recorded, for once a signature was required & as I wasn't in has gone back to the delivery office. It's going to cost me more than £3 to go & get it.
AAArgh, why don't they put that in the listing?
I wouldn't have bought from them if it was listed as recorded.
Moan over.

My friend sends everything he sells recorded delivery "just in case" someone tries to scam him out of money.

He doesn't grasp the concept that he's probably paying more than he would ever lose to scammers that way :wall:

He's possibly losing sales as well, I won't buy anything with recorded just in case they want a signature.
His p&p will be dearer than others as well.

Last year I won an item for the start price of £1,50 inclusive of free 2nd class recorded. Postage cost the buyer more than the £1,50 I paid *and* as usual I didn't have to sign for the item.

Didn't understand that one at all as I was fully expecting ti to come standard 2nd and assumed the 'recorded' bit was wrong on the listing.

If this one had said recorded, I wouldn't have bought it from them.
I contacted them & they said they send RD due to being scammed so much.
I'll have to pay the extra to get it sent to the nearest post office, (if RD can be sent to a post office) very peeved.

I tend to avoid seller using recorded on cheap items as well unless their combined price is still lower than other comparable sellers and soemtimes you cna pick up a bargain as many buyers dislike recorded.

However it didn't even occur to me in my example this was actually coming recorded, it was never going to make much more than start price anyway as I oculd have picked it up from other private sellers with 99p start price and 80p or so standard postage

£1.50 to go to local post office. It will have to go back to the seller & I'll buy elsewhere.
It's only bubblewrap, so loads of cheap suppliers. I shall check that the next one sends it standard post.

Good grief, £1.50 I'm sure that has gone up. I agree, best just let it ping back to seller and get it elswehere, save a lot of hassle.

I don't understand why anyone would send anything recorded. In my opinion it is a total waste of peoples time & money. Many people think its tracked through the whole system, infact its only recorded in the system once the customer has signed for it. If its valuable send it via Special Delivery and if its not just get a certificate of posting.
  • I brought some jewellery the other day, said it was going to be sent 1st class but was sent recorded. I was at the hospital wen they tried to deliver so my postman signed for it and put it in my letter box.
Usually I get a red card so was annoyed that the postman signed for it.
To make it worse the jewellery was SNAD, the seller has said send it back 2nd class recorded and they will pay my return cost, but if it doesn't track and is lost I can't claim as RM don't cover jewellery unless sent SD

Does collect plus cover it, as you can send a jiffy bag for about £4, I think.
I would have been more than happy for mine to sign for it & leave it.
