As for not spending any more in Waitrose than Tesco - don't make me laugh. What planet are you on? Very, very few items are a comparable price. I could write a massive list of hundreds of 'essentials' that are extortionately priced at Waitrose (for example, butter, cheese, bin liners, black bags, shampoo, etc), but what's the point. You carry on shopping at Waitrose wasting your hard earned, my friend.
Simple, I go into Waitrose, then Tesco and the comparable items are a comparable price, no real difference at all. Note I said normal, branded items, not essentials. Generally Lidl, Savers, 99p shop suffice for those.0 -
Believe me, we tried with Tesco. I got sick and tired of being given things with 1 day left to the sell-by date, meat and fish that had been kept in barely-refrigerated trucks, squashy fruit, brown vegetables, half-defrosted supposedly frozen goods and broken and cracked tins and jars. Items were missing from orders (mysteriously, small things that we wouldn't miss until after the driver had left and we started unpacking) and service didn't improve after complaints.
When we got our first Waitrose order we compared it side-by-side and we found that a) since they brand-match branded products are the same price anyway, b) the free delivery (Tesco: £6.50) outweighed the toilet paper costing 25p more, and c) most importantly, we actually wanted to eat the food we got given.saintjammyswine wrote: »Simple, I go into Waitrose, then Tesco and the comparable items are a comparable price, no real difference at all. I buy my soda crystals at whichever I pass first, Lidl, Aldi or Poundland0 -
Waitrose is well worth the extra money and if we could still afford it we would have continued shopping there. besides they send so many freebees and vouchers that you often save money in the long run. I would miss the clubcard vouchers though.0

My parents had a similar experience with Waitrose, something was wrong in their order so they got to keep it and got I think either wine or free chocolates.
Also, they often had free samples of stuff like Green and Blacks chocolate.
I dont shop there myself though because after working on a work project before which included comparisons of both branded and store brand items, Waitrose are definitely more expensive. Some items I really could not believe the difference in price. One of the worst offenders was fresh herbs.0 -

Which are pretty expensive even at cheap supermarkets.0 -

Agreed - herbs are a luxury item to us. We have a rather feeble basil plant my mum gave us that occasionally gives us a leaf fit to eat
if a recipe calls for herbs or something rare or expensive, we give it a miss.
In my local tesco's reduced section we always have herbs for 5-10p. It gets annoying as I don't like herbs that much so have to sift through to get to the good stuff :P0 -
Grow your own (some are easier than others though - parsley, mint, sage and rosemary probably the easiest).
Or use corner shops/greengrocers where you can get a massive bunch of herbs for not much more than supermarkets charge for a tiny little packet."The happiest of people don't necessarily have the
