Starting a PPI Claim against RBS

After scouring the web, and nearly all threads on these forums, I recently decided to contact RBS regarding the PPI on my previous loans with them.

Reasoning behind this was that nothing was mentioned regarding the requirement of the insurance, if my current salary and job related cover would be appropriate on its own and also due to my microtia, nothing regarding hearing loss would be covered (pre-existing medical condition).

Alos, more importantly, at the same financial review myself and my partner were working through a first time buyer mortage promise meeting, where we both got the impression that we would be seen more favourably with the bank if we consolidated our previous borrowings with a loan including PPI. What really burns with this is that I was only 13 months away from clearing the loan!

So currently, RBS have my complaint questionnaire, which was received by them on 25/10/2011.

I have had nothing through from them at all so far, and have telephoned twice - they have confirmed receipt, and stated that a letter was sent out on 02/11/2011. I have confirmed that this has not been received, and it will be resent out. They also mentioned last week that I was at a Second Stage Veto process, and that I should receive additional data requests within 7 days. This was from 17/11/2011, so is now overdue.

I think this could be a long haul.

I took out a claim for PPI about 2 months ago, and I received a letter acknowledging my claim on 29th September informing me it could take up to 12 weeks to receive a response. So far I have heard nothing - it probably is going to be a long and drawn out process!

Hope you get it sorted soon! :)

  • Well, I received my first letter from RBS today stating the usual 12 weeks duration etc

However, the letter was dated 25th October and was received by me on the 3rd December - I'm going to phone them on Monday and ask if any information is required from myself for the claims process, to bypass any mail delays (even though I know that there would be no issues with my mail delivery timescales, never had a delivery delay like this in 6 years).
  • Qiuck update for all those reading this.

I pjoned RBS PPI Concerns team today (Friday 16th December) asking them if they required any more information from myself regarding my PPI complaint.

I was informed that a letter was posted to myself on the 10th December via second class - I haven't received this yet and was then told that if nothing came through the post by Monday, then to contact them again to resissue the letter. I have confirmed that my contact details are correct, so am assuming the delay is due to the mail network experiencing christmas delays (to be expected).

I did ask them if they could tell me over the phone the details of the letter, however they could not. So I'm now wondering whats happening, and in all honesty don't think my complaint will be upheld due to the relatively quick response from RBS.

One comment I would have to make is that the PPI Concerns team have always been very friendly over the phone, quite happy to have a wee chat and while its very easy to demonise these people due to the nature of the job, I always feel that they, like us are average joes.

Fingers crossed I'll get something through the post in the next few days.
  • Another update, just received a letter from rbs today.

They have upheld my pip complaint, and are offering a refund of 3 payments, linked to three separate loans. The amounts are:

    £7020.96
    £3732.74
    £1354.56

Giving a total refund offer of £12,108.26. I am a very happy man, considering I had no idea on what I actually paid over the years.
  • Another update with a quick question folks.

I received a text message from RBS on Tuesday 10th January stating that my PPI Case has been paid and I should expect this to reach me within 7 days. I'm still waiting and am just wondering if its usual for RBS payments to go "to the wire" as it were.

I previously spoke to the PPI Complaints team requesting payment via cheque, as I no longer have any accounts with RBS (other than an inactive savings account they can't seem to close, no matter how often I ask them) and have no payment arrears - I'm assuming this could cause a delay?
  • Im still waiting for them to send me my SAR
I even sent it recorded del 4th Jan and it hasnt even been signed for according to the Royal Mail track and trace ;-(

It is only 5 working days today,4 if you dont count the day they sent you the cheque, you could recieve a cheque in the next 2 days, fingers crossed x.
  • Well, still nothing through the post so I've phoned up the helpline askng what the status was.

I'm now told that payment was paid by cheque and posted out on the 12th January rather than the timescale stated on the text i received on the 10th. I would love to know what postal service/system they use to cause a letter to take this long to get delivered. I was also informed that if nothing arrived by the 26th, to contact them so that another cheque could be sent out and the previous one cancelled.

    Hmmmmm
  • Don't want to burst your bubble but I received a text message and letter from RBS on 23rd Dec telling my money had been paid and would be with me in 7 days and there's still no sign of it. Have spoken to the PPI department and they're most unhelpful, I'm told something different every time I speak to them from the promise the money will arrive in the next few days to no guarantee it will arrive within 30 days to promises a manager will call me back which never materialise.

I get the impression it's a complete shambles...I've even received correspondence from the PPI departement that includes letters addressed to other customers including their names, addresses, bank account and PPI details so with that level of incompetance I've given up expecting my money this side of summer, it's already been over 6 months since I lodged my initial complaint.

Yes I know the frustration !!
Today I get a rather garbled e mail regarding my claim the figures in the e mail are correct yet I am still waiting final payment the interest was paid into an account I thought was closed and the remainder is in the pipeline !! Also they asked me one or two questions that do not relate to me.

I had asked for payment by cheque and a closure of my account but neither have been done yet.

Perhaps yet another visit to the Bank is in the offing.

It baffles me how these banks are getting away with causing so much distress to their customers .

All I want is my SAR and cheque !!
