Shall I wait until Christmas to get a mobile contract?

Hi to everyone, I came across with this forum while surfing on the internet, and it is a great place : )

Currently, I am interested in a mobile contract with Nokia Lumia 800. However, because there is only one month before Christmas, I am wondering if I shall wait until Christmas to get it. Will it have better deals then? Will the contract have a distinguished offer, or not really different from recent deals? If there is no big difference, I would rather get it now, because I really like this mobile :p

Best Regards

Unlikely, The qamount per month you need to pay to get it free will come down in 2-3 months as it stops being new, but there won't be much difference in a month.

Unlike many electricals contract phones generally don't appear in sales to any great extent

Thanks very much for your reply!

Actually, I am not looking for a handset-free contract. I am not heavy mobile user, so one T-mobile contract with 300 handset fee and 10.21/month (100mins, 100text, unlimited data, 500mb downloading) is kind of ok to me. As you can see, the handset fee is quite high. One of my friends suggests me to wait until Christmas sales, but actually we don't know if it will be a better deals then (lower handset fee, or more mins and texts). I have never went to a mobile shop during Christmas holidays.

Thanks again for your advice again!

    It's not really that important.

The handset fee will come down in a few months too, but typically theres not a lot of movement on contract phones.

That said the Lumia is reported as not selling too well so it may be reduced to get the sales going

Then, I think I will wait a little bit. Although I do like nokia lumia 800, I think the prices (including PAYG and contract) are kind of high, considering the actual hardware of this mobile is not that "high end".

Kind of sad, not a fan, but I would like to see this mobile growing popularity. However, even to myself, I am not quite happy with the recent deals.

Depends what you call high end. A Sim Free version from Expansys would cost you £449, which makes it on a par with a iPhone 4, the Galaxy S2 or the HTC sensation XL.

Looking at it that way it is a high end phone, with a high end price tag that needs to be paid for somehow.

Well, I mean "technical high end". No front camera, single core, screen is nice but not the best... I have read post about those features, and I understand it is not that important. However, think about the price and future upgrade ... sigh ...
  • Hello,

Mobile phone contract prices tend not to change too much. It mostly depends on how old the phone is. The older the phone is, the cheaper the contract will be, usually.

There are other options that buying the phone straight from the network provider. Such as buying the phone sim free from somewhere like eBay or any other online mobile phone store, then getting a "Sim Only" plan from a network provider. Sometimes the Sim Only plans are the best deals as there is no charge for the phone.

The new network GiffGaff (which runs on the O2 network) currently have a good deal on. You pay £10 a month and get Unlimited Texts, Unlimited Internet and 250 UK Voice mins. You arn't tied to any contracts so you can leave whenever you want and you dont have to top up every month if you dont want.

Other operators have good Sim Only deals too. Have a look around on the websites.

    Hope this helps :)

The sim-free handset is kind of expensive currently (399 - 449). The T-mobile contract is similar to what you suggest except the 24m limitation. It is like that you pay 300 for the mobile, and 10.21 per month for the next 24 months. It is just that the mins and texts with this contract is not that attractive.

Sometimes, I was thinking if I was too greedy?:p

    But thanks again : )
  • Just got to know that you cannot use skype and instant messenger on T-mobile's internet unless you spend more to upgrade the data plan ... frustrating!

??? Both are data services so you need data. Not sure why you would think otherwise, there have always been features build into phones that require extra services.

Most smartphones not have data with the plan they are sold with though.
