Well now, it seems BG are putting up there prices again by abolishing the websaver tariffs, For me in DN15 it works out at a 9% increase using uswitch's figures.

I'm on economy 7 electricity.

  • The energy industry is an absolute joke and so are this Govt. (and all the previous ones since privatisation) Huhne's advice? Switch suppliers for a better deal. Genius. So assuming all the 75% of households on standard rate suddenly change to a cheaper online tariff, is anyone seriously thinking the online tariffs won't increase exponentially? The bottom line is this industry has been sold off to organisations that put profit first. Nothing wrong with that, of course, the vast majority do. What's wrong, REALLY wrong, is they were allowed to get their capitalist mitts on it in the first place. Well done, Maggie.

The MD of BG has been on Newsnight last night and BBC breakfast this morning. It seems he gets £1.4m a year for managing to stay up late to appear on Newsnight and get up early to be on the Breakfast news, because all that came out of his mouth on both occasions was nonsense.

Can he honestly say that BG will suddenly go from about 550 tarriffs to just 2 (variable and fixed) and more importantly that customers will believe him?

He even said this morning there will be a DD tarriff which will be cheaper, so he's already shown it will be more than 2.

Then there are a tarriffs for E7, E10 (if it still exists), online accounts only, paper bills only etc etc.

    He's a fool.
  • Yeah!

I am on BG Websaver 11 with an annual usage of 16433Kw of Gas and 9173Kw of Elec (Data from my BG Smart Meter - Updates my usage to BG everyday)

OK, I have taken a look at the BG ship and done their "Find the right tariff package for you". I put in my details above and wow betide me their best tariff (choice of the 2 - Online or standard) they suggest for me is the Online tariff which happens to be £208.24 more expensive.
    Current spend: £1657.35 per year

Fuel type: Dual fuel (gas & electricity)

    We recommend this tariff:

    Online Energy

    • Our cheapest available online tariff
    • Guaranteed 4% discount against our Standard tariff until 31st January 2014

    Estimated Spend £1865.59

What a ripoff, how can that twit state on TV this morning that this will even out the confusion and make customers more happy. Funny how the above tariff states it is their "Cheapest available online tariff" when they actually now ONLY do one online tariff!!!!!!

Well howcome me and about x million more could see this was going to happen but the dear ole coalition didn,t.
What a complete load of B^%$$£"$S.
Thank god i moved to EDF in august.
  • I was a bit puzzled when I saw this. The Websaver tariffs have been their best offer for a while but now they're scaling everything back to just having one or two online tariffs. I personally preferred it when they have lots of different tariffs avaiable but I suppose they and the other big companies came under fire for having too many tariffs and have now gone the other way. The figure of 550 different tariffs shocked me, I'm not sure where they got that figure from but you'd be looking at each of the 'big 6' suppliers as having about 80-90 tariffs each by those maths.
It'll only be a matter of time before people start saying they want more choice again and that will suit me more.

This move will suit older people and people who are not able or wise enough to shop around for the best deal. BG must have decided to target this market. All their other customers will leave.

It could be that the rest of the Big 6 may feel pressured into doing this also, now that the cat is truly out of the bag with regard to basically ripping off your loyal customers in order to fund acquiring potential fly be nights. As 75% of the public are still on standard rate, this initiative probably improves the deal for the majority.

Us older people do know how to use a computer hence the reply, I really cant see the problem here, years ago us old people had a standing charge and one tariff. It doesnt really matter how many tariffs we have they will always put up the price, BG love to increase the price by 20% then reduce it by 5% and send me letters to tell me how they are driving down the prices and how lucky I am to be one of their valued customers.

But according the Martin Lewis on five live BBC radio this very morn..the reason why BG are restructuring their tarriffs is becuase there has been a camapign to simply tarriffs as many people complain that they cant deal with the multitude of tariffs from all the suppliers. I think Martin was actually one who championed this cause and that OFGEM have simply asked suppliers to do what the public want !

Truth is that too many people do not have the mental agility to keep ahead of the curve because they are not bright enough and/or do not have someone to assist them.

Thats tough for them and they can keep paying more for energy to subsidize people like me who can keep up to speed with it.
Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Thats why your slave box costs so much..
