You could perhaps look at loaning her the money to buy a 2 bed flat/house. She could then live rent free and use the tax free "lodger allowance" of up to £4250/annum gross to rent the other room out. Giving her a benefit of say £8500 tax free. Local market conditions would determine whether the capital sum required makes sense. The property would have to be her primary residence. If the gross income exceeds the tax free limit it beomes taxable but expenses can be taken into account.
I would, however, also say it would be beneficial for her to take a place in halls of residence for the first year as this would allow her to establish a friendship group.0 -
The idea of a loan to buy a flat is a good one; I'm hesitant about exposing myself any further to property-price or rental risk, although my attitude could change once I know where she'll be going.0
