I thought that only applied to HMO - the 5 person, 3 storey type.0 -
I thought 5 yearly.Georgecarol wrote: »As she mentioned on the phone that is passed the safety, it had to have been over a year ago, does the March 1 thing mean that it's necessary to have it checked again??? Is this a yearly check like the gas safety certificate?0 -
Thanks for the info guys. I'm going in to pay my rent today so I'm going to see what info I can get on the other house. I'm in a bit of a quandry now. I received a phone call from the hospital waiting list on the weekend and they told me I could be getting this operation on my foot by the middle of April, which will have me off my feet for 2 months. If I'm moving I need to do it immediately, yet the landlady seems to think she can get the work started by Easter. I can either cancel my operation which I've waited over a year for, cancel the landlady, or hold off on a move
There is no way I can function in this house in a wheelchair as it is because the wheelchair wouldn't fit in the kitchen. Nor can I function with work going on. Nor can I help move with a cast on my leg. I'm telling ya, when it rains it pours:mad: 0 -
Ok, so check it out...... Went in to pay my rent, explained my quandry to the agent, basically, what do I want him to do about it. I said if this had happened when promised, I wouldn't be in this situation. He said the thing that's holding up everything is the fact that I have an "American style" fridge and freezer and they don't know how to work around it:eek:  That's just ticked me right off now. When the landlady was over and met the builder to go through the plans, I had said at the time to discount the freezer as it could go in the shed, just take the fridge into account as a lot of people have an upright fridge/freezer. She wanted to build the units around an under counter fridge and freezer and I tried to say that not too many families have those these days and she didn't want to hear it as more families have the under the counter and she knows what she's talking about, so I didn't pursue it. The fact is, our kitchen, as it stands now, is going to be the utility room, so I don't understand what the fuss is about. Our appliances will have no problem fitting into it. I just feel at this point it's another excuse as to not spend the money and now they're trying to lay the blame for the lengthy delays at our feet.
I had asked about the other house he has and he told me that the landlord isn't giving the key back until the house is finished and ready to rent. As we have to give a months notice, I asked if he thought he would be willing to wait for us to move in as it would have been empty for a while at that point and the agent just shrugged his shoulders. According to him, the LL could hand over the key and tell him to rent it out as soon as possible, which would leave us out in the cold again:mad: I'm just fuming at this point, I was just lost for words. I feel like they're really stringing us along now. It's been a year at the end of this month that we were promised a kitchen and that all the other jobs would be fixed as well. I just feel like calling the agency back and telling them to inform the LL to just forget the kitchen as we've had enough now.
All of this sucks big time and it's given me my first headache of the week

Alright people, I believe we have a result:j :T
I went to look at the house with the same agency, the one that the previous people did a runner. It was perfect:beer: Sizewise anyway, I of course discounted the holes in the walls and the stench of 4 cats and a dog and the nicotine stains dripping down the walls, apart from that it was great;) I don't have an exact date to move, the owner is saying about 3 weeks, the decorators should be done by then hopefully. My agent said just write my letter and leave the dates off and he'll sort it for us, which is great news. It's the least he could do after all the hassle we've gone through. My only worry was the rent, he thought it might go up as the owner is having to put a lot of money into it to repair and decorate. I "persuaded" him to lay the facts out to the landlord. We're good tenants, we've never missed or been late with our rent, apart from general end of tenancy cleaning, there's nothing wrong with the house we're leaving, we won't be doing a runner as they know where my family lives:p , we're looking for long term and the most important, if I turn it down, it won't be shown to others til the agent has the keys, so there's a month lost right there. I called back yesterday and it's staying the same rent:j
I am so happy to be moving from this place, my new kitchen is great, you can actually have more than one person standing in it:p Maybe I'll have a kitchen warming party;)
Now, my only worry is, that with not having an exact date yet, I can't book a moving van and I hope I won't be left with the expensive ones or the crappy ones. *Sigh*, am I ever satisfied:o0 -
What the hell is the problem with the agency I'm with
According to a neighbour, the previous tenants of the house I'm supposed to be moving into said that the utilities were cut off due to non-payment and the gas people were around and fitted a pre-payment meter. The agent was informed 2 weeks ago, before we saw the house and never mentioned a word. Does anyone know how this now affects me? Do I have to pay to have this taken off, can it be taken off? Need some help here:mad: 0
