Epson printers - compatible cartridges invalidate warranty?

I've had an Epson inkjet since February this year. Have replaced all the colour cartridges with compatible ones and they've been fine. When it came to the black, they won't work. Have tried two different ones now and neither will work. I'm really loath to shell out £17 for a genuine Epson one to try. Obviously I'm still within warranty, but if I take it to my local Epson dealership, are they just going to send me away with a flea in my ear for using compatibles?
Warranty says: "For Optimum Performance from Your EPSON
Product: We recommend you only use genuine
EPSON consumables and options." - ie a recommendation. However, further on it says: "We will not provide warranty repair or replacement if
in our opinion the problem resulted from externally
caused damage or use outside the product's
specification (the specification for EPSON products
is that defined by the manufacturer of the product
whose decision as to whether a product is used
outside its specification or not is final) or from the
use of options, parts or consumables which are
not EPSON branded or approved."
To replace all the cartridges with genuine Epson ones in order to take it into the repair centre will cost me more than the printer. Should I risk taking it in with the compatibles or will they just immediately say it's because I've used compatibles?
Thanks in advance for any advice.

Which make of compatibles?
I just got mine out to have a look and it just says Color Ink Cartridge on the front and what printer it's for. Some Caution stuff on the back and some installation instructions an ISO 9001 stamp on the side and a bar code on the bottom. There is no make.:footie:Regular savers earn 6% interest (HSBC, First Direct, M&S)
Loans cost 2.9% per year (Nationwide) = FREE money.

Mine come in boxes with the make on0

Chances are when you take it back, they will want to see the cartridges and may even try to see if it works, so once they see the compatibles, all they will say is they void the warranty.Mansion TV. Avoid at all cost's :j0

The ones I've just bought are Oriki and these are the previous ones, which all work fine except for the black: Ah, okay, I can't post links as I'm new. They were from a company called Badger Inks selling via Amazon.0

If you go to devices and printers, then to printer properties, maintenance, what is the result of a nozzle check? Have you run the head cleaner?
I use these from either ukdvdr or bigpockets and they show as " genuine " in the ink monitor

Nozzle check shows all colours fine, apart from black, which is just a few little dots. Have cleaned three times now and no difference each time. It's used pretty much daily, so I don't think it can be dried up and blocked. It's not showing as incompatible - ie, no error messages. It just won't print, which to me is odd as the colour ones that came with it are fine.0

That's what is odd, if one works they should all work.
I imagine an Epson centre will blame everything on compatibles, so you can either remove them and take it in, or try another supplier.
Sometimes removing the power lead from the back of the printer for a few minutes helps0 -
Will try that now. If I take it into the centre with no ink in it, they will be suspicious, no?
Thanks for all your help, Santer.0 -
Just say the last one you took in to another centre was returned without the ink cartridges
One thing you can try is their live chat during office hours to ask for a replacement if you pay £10 towards the courier.

They ask you to remove the inks and paper tray and have always sent the replacement with a set of inks0
