It is never too late to ask to have your credit file amended.

Possibly better to do that in writing so there is a record of your request and their response.

To be fair it's not neglect, just let down by the Royal Mail. I share the card with my wife and we split the bill every month. She likes to pay by cheque as it gives her time before they take the amount. She always sends it well before the deadline.

I will go cap in hand.

If you set a direct debit up they would take the statement balance on the due date which is about as good as you are going to get?

He said on the phone that the £12 fee has been cancelled and we don't have to pay it. My wife is worried that because this £12 fee is part of the full bill it still has to be paid and refunded later.

As he told me the £12 has been cancelled, should we just pay the bill less £12 ?

You can either ring up and ask for the latest balance and then pay exactly what they state (which will hopefully be £12 less)

Or use Tesco online banking to find the current amount required.

I wouldn't just pay the bill minus £12 until its been confirmed.

No pay the £12 as that is part of the current months bill. and they will refund it next monthl.
My DD didnt go through one month and they advised that if I dont pay off inc £12 I may get debit interest!

Why didn't you tell me this earlier in the post ? I could have asked that too but had no idea. Too late now

I feel a bit bad really as I used a number from "Say No To" website and it reversed the charges.

What do you mean it reversed the charges? You calling them up on a landline number doesn't cost them anything - and I'd be shocked if they accept reverse charge calls (i.e. via 0800 reverse)!

Oops, I didn't see the £24 interest they had charged on top of the late payment fee did I. I had to ring them again and they said it will be refunded but I did set up a direct debit with them for a minimum payment just to be safe so they can't charge a late payment fee or interest if the cheque doesn't arrive on time.

yes this a good idea, I have this on my cards then overpay them when I want to so at least the minumum is always covered and no black marks on the credit file!

If the cheque does not arrive in time they will still charge interest.
