For over 12 years we have not missed a payment date on our Tesco credit card. We sent last month's bill well within the time but they have informed us that we are going to be charged £12 as it was one day overdue

If I ring have I a chance of them wavering it ?

You can always try. It doesn't cost, does it?

    Ring them.

    Be nice.

    Ask what's gone wrong.

    Ask nicely for a refund.

    You'll succeed.

Do you use (trust) Royal Mail to get your payment there on time next month? Perhaps switch to DD for minimum, then send cheque in post OR use that lovely, shiny computer you used to post on this forum, to make a online payment to the CC provider.

They tried the same with me last month. I phoned and it was refunded straight away by the supervisor :j

I'd say yes. Just be nice and calm. I've had multiple £12 payments refunded. 2 were me forgetting and others due to DD not correctly setup.

Might be worth setting up a DD for the minimum to ensure it doesn't happen again, and perhaps use internet banking to pay it in the future ?

If you going to use royal mail, ensure to give at least 14 days for the post to reach its destination.

To be fair it's not neglect, just let down by the Royal Mail. I share the card with my wife and we split the bill every month. She likes to pay by cheque as it gives her time before they take the amount. She always sends it well before the deadline.

I will go cap in hand.

I used to send cheques, but I did find the post increasingly unreliable. Also I came to resent the cost of a stamp too!

I won't sign DDs. Tescos let me pay by debit card on their website. I don't think there is any restriction to say the card has to be in my name. Perhaps you could consider this for the future. Generally I find it is credited same day.

Why didn't you tell me this earlier in the post ? I could have asked that too but had no idea. Too late now

I feel a bit bad really as I used a number from "Say No To" website and it reversed the charges.
