'Unlimited Browsing'

I have decided that after 6 years of being with T-Mobile and as my latest contract is now ending, I want a change of network. I've always had unlimited internet and have never been charged for going over any limits at all.

Now, I know that recently, most operators have finished the unlimited internet on price plans, and so I wasn't sure whether I could keep it.

I was discussing the options of staying with T-Mobile with an Online Assistant. She said that if I stayed I could 'certainly' keep my 'unlimited browsing and 1GB download limit'

Doesn't that statement sound contradictory?? How can you browse without limits but have a 1GB limit? Does this not imply that 'browsing' does not use data??

I asked her to clarify and asked again "Will I still have unlimited Internet?" but all she would say is "Yes! unlimited browsing and 1GB download limit"

Could anyone shed some light on this?

No, it's not contradictory. The limit is on downloading and streaming. General browsing is unlimited.

Seems to be relating to mobile broadband, but I suspect that's what it means.

How does T-Mobile distinguish between downloaded items and general browsing if they both use data? What does viewing/downloading Google Maps and StreetView images count as? What about data that apps download when they run? How about emails?

I am no a techie, but I am pretty sure it is possible. Some ambiguous small files don't make much difference.

No, they used to have 500Mb and still have it on many tariffs. I think even 500Mb is difficult to reach without downloading.

Can't comment on maps, but large files definitely go as up/downloading.

I think it depends on the plan. For the Internet Booster on sim-only plans it is downloading/streaming.

I shall try to find out whether Google Maps counts towards the limit.. this is a big deal breaker for me and if so I'm going to have to go for Three's One Plan, even if their service is patchy (or possibly even GiffGaff)

I called them, they said google maps DOES NOT count towards the 500mb!

Interesting! Does this apply to any network? Vodafone for example?

It doesn't count as downloading at t-mobile.
AFAIK t-mobile is the only network that differentiates browsing and downloading at some tariffs.
