Officially 75g for an adult, half for a child (same for pasta).
However, this is just a good place to start... My DH has 100g, I have 50g and my DS(9) has 50g too.
If applying to pasta, I find that if the dish is mainly pasta then you may have to add a little extra!
I always weigh my rice and pasta to avoid waste, but LO Pasta is yummy made into egg fried pasta for DS, so I might add an extra 50g on purpose! We spend money we don't have, on things that we don't need, to impress people we don't like. Next time you have a small tin of baked beans or the like, wash the tin out & keep it,then whenever you need to measure the rice, fill the tin up to just below the rim where the lid used to be attatched to.
This is,to me,a one person serving.
That's what I do.0 -
Hmm... just for the fun of it I weighed my rice...
½ cup = 110g
1/3 cup = 75g
¼ cup = 55g
So yes, a half cup based on an "official" 75g would be "big" and a 1/3rd cup would be normal, and a quarter would be moderate or small.
The amount is obviously going to be variable depending on just what it is that you are cooking. For example if I'm doing a risotto or a stir fry and only adding a few veg or bits and bobs I'd most likely do a large portion of rice - while if it was to go along with a good dollop of chilli or curry I'd use moderate or even small.
This is turning into one of those "How long is a piece of string?" questions innit?Hi, I'm a Board Guide on the Old Style and the Consumer Rights boards which means I'm a volunteer to help the boards run smoothly and can move and merge posts there. Ye gods! That's a huge amount of rice.
A baked bean tin holds darn near one and a half cups. That'd be three times what I think of as a "large" portion.
A tuna can would be closer to the mark, I thinkHi, I'm a Board Guide on the Old Style and the Consumer Rights boards which means I'm a volunteer to help the boards run smoothly and can move and merge posts there. Regarding portion size, if I'm doing curry and rice then I measure two slotted spoonfulls of dry rice.
Slotted spoon as in the long handled pastic things which you dish up veggies with.
This seems to work for myself and OH.0
