International text Messaging 19p - too expensive

I am on Orange raccoon but I really dont like paying the 19p per text message for sending text to the USA.

Does anyone have any idea how I can send them for less from my mobile phone?

Or would I need to get another sim?

Had this too, there used to be a brilliant sms web based site smspop but sadely closed, above post is the best equivalent.
Internationaltext messaging , the other option is send to the states a sim card and you can text top that number at local rates

orange have a calling abroad bundle which can reduce the costs a little
you get 20% extra value for your money
so you buy £10 and get £12 of calls
the bundles last 6m and come in £10, £25 or £50

I searched and found this thread because I wanted an answer to the same question. I rang orange and they said they offer no cheaper alternative to texting the USA, all the international packages they do are for europe only. So ive just downloaded the smsbug app to my phone,it seems to work fine, but how are you billed?I havent paid any credit to them and its sending texts.

if its only 1 person u are sending the messages to then the cheapest way is to give him/her a pay as you go sim from this country and then they can keep the sim active and recieve any number of msgs u send. u can find countless sims free on this website. If this is not an option for u then use websites suggested by fellow mse users above

I have used it before following advice from Redux. It is OK, but doesnt seem to be as reliable as Vyke. Also Vyke uses your mobile's own contact list, whereas SMSBUG asks you to set up your own contacts again through the application.

I installed Vyke on my mobile and it has never failed me, whereas SMSBUG has failed to send a few times.

The only problem I have ever had with Vyke is that it doesnt always seem to connect on all phones. My wife's Samsung E370 will install Vyke, but not connect in any way (no idea why - Redux if you're reading this, she can connect to the Net, but Vyke wont connect - would you know why?). In her case, I have downloaded my 2nd choice, ie SMSBUG!
