Had a letter from Eon this morning informing me the Eon Saveonline 4 plan is ending in January and they want to put me on Eon Energy Plan, i find there plans difficult to follow and to me the Eon Saveonline 11 looks a better bet, i would appreciate a bit of advice on this plan please. I have been with Eon for a long time now and am really not wanting to move to someone else, as the ammount of hassle we had moving from EDF to Eon before was just horrendous. I am slightly anoyed as to them wanting to move me to what i see as there standard plan which looks the most expensive. Any help would be appreciated. Please don't tell me to look at other suppliers as i really don't want to go down that path again, and i doubt i would save much anyway...thanks

  • Do you have an online account?

If so log on and see what other plans are available and choose accordingly.

Have online account, plans a little confusing to me, i will have another look and maybe phone them as well, although i never really understand what they waffle on about. Would be nice if they made plans easier to understand, and that goes for all suppliers.

It's fairly standard to move you onto Standard when your contract ends, and would have been specified in your T&C's.
You don't have to understand the myriad intricacies of a tariff, just put your annual kWh figures into any comp site and the job is done. Phoning them up will not get you unbiased advice, they're just trying to sell you the most profitable deal for them.
If you want the best tariff, you may have to be prepared to switch again. It's usually less painless than EDF make it.

    Hi denwyn

Hoping I can help a little here, the letter we sent is just a reminder that your SaveOnline 4 plan is ending on 15 January 2012 and what will happen from there.

We can’t sign you up to a new plan without checking with you first. Your circumstances may have changed since you went for SaveOnline so we need to make sure that when choosing your new plan that it’s the the best one for you and that your happy to sign up to a new contract with us.

Because SaveOnline 4 runs out on 15 January, unless you choose another plan you’ll automatically renew on our EnergyOnline plan. It’s not a contract plan and offers our standard gas and electricity prices with a total discount of 10%. This is made up of 6% for Direct Debit, 2% dual fuel and another 2% online discount.

SaveOnline 11 guarantees to be at least 2% lower than our standard energy prices for a year from the date you switch. You’d be under contract with us for those 12 months so would be charged a cancellation fee if you were to leave us. You’ll also receive an 8% discount for payment by dual fuel Direct Debit.

You can view our full list of products by using the Switch Now option of your online account. I know there’s a few to choose from, so we’re happy to go through things over the phone if you need a little help.

Alternatively, you could put your annual use into a comparison site to get an idea as to how the plans compare with others and what your new annual bill will be. It’s also worth bearing in mind that any changes you make will happen straight away, so you may want to stay on your current plan for now and look again in the New Year.

Hope this helps, if you need any more info just let me know :)

Does that mean the SaveOnline 11 actually works out the same as the EnergyOnline plan price? If that's the case then EnergyOnline would be better as there is no contract.

    Hi Blackdog

Not necessarily. EnergyOnline is our basic online product and is based on standard prices less 10 per cent discount regardless of region.

Saveonline 11 prices, though, have a discount built into the unit rates for managing the account online. On top of this, there's a further discount of 8 per cent for dual fuel and payment by Monthly Direct Debit.

The amount unit prices are reduced depends on the region.

As Amanda advised, best bet is to pop your usage on to one of the comparison sites. This will list out all the options open to you, both with us and the other suppliers.

Hope this helps Blackdog. Give me a shout if you need any more info as will be happy to help.

If I wanted to move to saveonline 11 at the end of the saveonline 4 contract period (15 Jan 2011) is there anyway I can register for that now without incurring a penalty or do I actually have to log on and switch on 15 Jan? In other words do Eon allow you to specify a date in advance when you want to change or do they do it immediately?
  • Penalty with Eon only occurs if you switch from eon to another power company before tariff has ended, not if you change from one eon product to another, if you call the number on the save online 4 renewal letter, advising you will go on energy online tariff at the end of save online 4 as standard, and ask the operator who answers to put you on save online 11 from 16-1-12 they can post date the tariff change for you.

I have the same issue and tried to switch to their SaveOnline 11 tarrif to start from 16th Jan but it didn't give me the option to select what date the tarrif should start from. I called E.on and asked the operator if they could do that for me but apparently as I am an 'online' customer they can't do that for me. I'll have to wait until the 15th ofJan and switch to the tarrif I want myself. I also spoke to a manager who said they didn't have access to any of the online tarrifs. Is this right? I find it quite odd that they can't put me on the tarrif I want to start the date my old tarrif ends. I wouldn't have any problems doing it myself but there is no option to amend the date! Anybody else come across this issue and got around it (other than waiting till the date the contract ends and switching yourself that is?)
