Mobile -> Laptop via infrared, how?
Hey, i'm really struggling on finding info on how to get this working.
I've got a sony Ericsson T610 & a Toshiba Satellite Pro A60 laptop with infrared port. I've switched the ports on both devices yet they do not recognise each other.
Can anybody please advise what i'm doing wrong & how to correct this please? Do i need software? All i want to do is transfter ringtones & photos from one to the other.. any advice welcome please.
Thanks

Thanks for that info, i clicked hte link but it told me this info on the download page:
Note! File Manager does not support Infrared connection for the following phones: T610, T610 NZ, T616, T618, T628, T630, T637, Z600 and Z608.0 -
i actually did this before but it was a while ago. If I remember rightly u have to install modem drivers that are on the SE cd. This will allow your computer to see your phones modem on COM4. you then can 'add new dial up connection' using infared to connect to the phone and internet. good luck

sorry, what's SE cd? Is that the windows CD?
PS, i just found an infrared & also a modem driver on the Toshiba website, which is required?0 -
The SE cd is the Sony Ericsson CD that comes boxed with the phone.
Sorry about the previous link, I had thought the software was generic as it was linked with the t610 on the website.
Do not install the driver software from the website as its the driver for the internal t610 modem.
What OS have you got on your system?
If you have got Win XP, then windows should automatically detect the t610 and create an infrared connection between your laptop and phone. It should also create a link on your desktop by the names of "Send File to Wireless Device" or something similar. Here's a link which will most definately help you solve the problem.

aaaaaaah SE!! i shoulda known! - I dont have this, i bought the phone 2nd hand off a friend & never got the CD. i'll ask him if he's got it, but knowing him it's probably buried in his room under a pile of rubbish!
the OS is XP.
Neither the phone nor the laptop currently recognise antoher infrared device is present.... i'll take a look at the link you provided tomorrow (hopefully) I'll feedback when i know more!

Sorry to kinda barge in on someone else's thread here, but I have the same problem. I have a motorola phone and tiny laptop, but cant seem to connect them, and no magic cd to solve all the problems... any ideas what i should do?0

What kind of motorola do you have?0

Motorla V500 on orange0

There are two ways of connecting that motorola to a pc/laptop/PDA
One's by bluetooth where you will need a bluetooth adapter for your pc/laptop if you don't already have it.
Another's by using a USB data cable which you can get from quite a few online mobile sites.
The latter will need a software CD in order to control the link between the laptop and phone. However, you may not need the CD when using the bluetooth because windows had a generic bluetooth driver.
Which method are you using to connect the phone to the laptop?0
