Hello
I have been on this site many a time but never joined but today i am totally stuck so looking for some help/advice .
I never knew Barclay (sp) card had took over Egg card until a few days ago when i asked Egg for a statement . I am on a payment plan with Egg of £26 per month so they said to contact Barclay which i did this morning to be told my account was written off - what does this mean ? Sold to a debt collection agency ? I am now so in a fluster as i have delt with debt collection agencies before and had a nightmare with Moorcroft . I have never missed a payment while being on my plan so i dont know what else to do . Should i call them back up and explain this ? I have about £900 outstanding
Thank you very much

Written off means they are closing the case and not interested. Sounds unlikely. Try speaking to them again, if they confirm it is written off ask for it in writing.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. I think barclays only bought active accounts from Egg. I think other accounts on repayment plans were all passed to a debt collector. Have you not had any letters from egg or a debt collector regarding your debt? It was first announced in March and I think letters were orginally sent out in summer some time?
(I'm not sure but I think it might be moorcroft they were sold to.)
Edit - this thread https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/3540417 suggests maybe customers received letter early October from moorcroft?A smile enriches those who receive without making poorer those who giveor "It costs nowt to be nice"0 -
Ah the famous Moorcroft . No i have never heard anything about this move until i contacted Egg and they said about Barclay card . I have never heard anything from Moorcroft or anyone . When i called today to see who i should pay the woman said it was written off but she would put me through to the collections department where i was cut off . When i heard written off i assumed passed to debt collection agencies so i am all of a fluster as i have dealt with Moorcroft before back in 2009 .0

Might be worth getting a copy of your credit file -it might show on there that the debt is now with someone else - and confirm if it is mc?
If they have got it - and do write, try to stay in control and don't ever speak to them on the phone do everything in writing. Just write and say your circumstances haven't changed and you can still only afford the £26 a month.
If they do start phoning to harrass there is a template letter you can send to request all communication is in writing. And if they are harrassing you by phone or letters check out the OFT guidance on debt collection - and report them for any they breach.
You can find the templates and guidance on the 'debt free wannabe' section of the forum.A smile enriches those who receive without making poorer those who giveor "It costs nowt to be nice"0 -
Thanks Tixy - yes as i said i have dealt with them before Moorcroft
I sent them that letter about calling me and they still called me daily and at work and when i said you cant do this - they said it was me that was in debt not them and they could do what ever they want to collect that debt ! Hence i went to the Ombidsmum ( Dont know how to spell that ) and Egg took my case back and had to just pay Egg from then on . I will maybe just give Barclay card a call back and see what they say
