Get them to plug in and test a replacement new one in front of you to check it for the fault that you've seen before so you could take home a working set?

I was almost tempted to do this with the new set they gave. Problem is, while the fault isn't intermittent it appears after a short period of use.

It was just over a day from being set up to noticing the fault this time round. The picture was perfect when we set it up on Monday. TV set #1 was around 6 weeks old when the lines appeared.

This new set is actually worse.

I contacted Argos customer service and reported the issue with the new tv. Obviously not keen on getting another one of these sets, I said that I'd prefer to get my money back so that I can go elsewhere and buy a different tv. They phoned the store and the store said it would be at the managers discretion whether I got a replacement, a repair or a refund but since 30 days have lapsed, I won't be able to get my money back.

You have to speak to someone who has some power, so again I will suggest you ask for a manager at the head office. If you are firm they will put you through to someone.

The number I'm calling is the customer services number given on the back of the receipt, dunno if there's a better number to call. The customer services have always just referred me to the branch as they say it's their decision. So I'm not sure if the managers at customer services will refer me too. Suppose it's worth a try.

It certainly is worth a try, it's worked for me with another problem.

Yes, a different problem but their HO sorted it when I spoke to the right person.
  • All sorted, spoke to head office and they said that I should be given a refund as this second tv had the same fault.

Went into store and just waiting on refund going back into my bank.

I went to choose another tv after leaving Argos and in a store I visited someone told me that the way Argos store their tv's may lead to this fault as in some stores warehouse, the tv's are stacked horizontally and the pressure on screens may be too much for the panels to take. Don't know if there's any truth in that?

I've been in a few premises while auditing and although I wont mention any names, I can confirm a few well known retailers do this, or even upside down! Which utterly amazed me since the boxes all had "this way up" with arrows indicating the proper direction on them.
