plusnet non low cost exchange chanes

Options
I joined Plusnet a couple of years back and my exchange was not in PlusNet's low cost exchange area. So instead of £6.49 I had to pay about double.

Now I've discovered that BT have done whatever it is they do to the exchange and so PlusNet can offer me the lower price.

This is lovely, but it would have been nice if they had told me of the change! And I'd like the price reduction backdated.

Does anyone know how I can find out when the exchange was updated and hence when the PlusNet pricing formula changed? PlusNet told me that it is when OfCom tell them - i rang OfCom and they say that this rubbish!

You are very unlikely to get any money refunded as the onus is on you to keep checking that you are getting a good deal that you are happy with.

  • The lower price applies in an exchange with more than one or several providers. It's called a Market reclassification.

The classifications are published by OFCOM and so regardless of when the tech went in, I have a feeling it's from the OFCOM date of reclassification that the newer prices may apply and in that respect Plusnet were right to quote that and OFCOM were wrong to deny it.

However they should be able to tell you when the exchange was reclassified.

    Hi denwheels,

I'd be happy to take a look at this and make sure the price is applied if you're able to post a ticket ID?

I'm in the same position. I noticed on thePlusnet site last night that my area now comes into the low cost area and when I phoned them was told my price change would be "fast-tracked". They have now confirmed that the change will be implemented at the next billing date, mid December. They have confirmed that the reduction will not be backdated.

As they are not backdating the reductions, I'm left wondering just how long it would have taken them to reach my name on the list of customers they are allegedly working through.

Shame, because I've always been very happy with their customer service until now and have happily recommended them to anyone who has asked for advice on providers.

I believe it said, on one of their pages, that the reclassification happened in July.

I don't think that, in this case, the onus should have been on me to keep checking as it is a reduction in the price of exactly the same product. I think the reduction should automatically have been applied.
