3000 Units out!

Options
Morning all, looking for some advice our utility bills have always been pretty low £27 per month electricity and £20 gas. Just had a rebate on the gas but it lloks like my electricity could be out by 3000 units (in their favour). I need to double check the meter reading and get back to them. If so am I looking at a massive bill?

I am with Southern Electric on their General Better plan, I have paperless bills and pay by DD.

If anyone has an idea of how much I owe it would be much appreciated, am now very worried.

3000 * your unit rate = likely amount owed

    Cheers

Between £300 and £350 I would have thought.

At about 10p per kWh, around £300. When did you last submit a meter reading though? That's under estimated by about 9 month's average usage.
Not surprising, as £564 pa is less than half the average dual fuel budget. Your DD's need adjusting up (as indeed they will be now).

  • Thanks guys just what I need before Xmas. I last submitted a meter reading in April, and have just had a rebate on my gas. If I pay the whole amount off, will my DD's still rise?

You really need to submit meter readings every 3 months to avoid big catch up bills.
Yes, because clearly your DD's are inadequate to cover ongoing usage. Leaving them the same will simply result in another catch up bill sometime next year. More advice can be given if you post your annual kWh consumption, but your DD should be that times your unit rate, plus standing charges, divided by 12.
Your gas account should have a sizeable credit at this time of year as we are going into the 3 months of peak consumption. If your rebate has just zeroed it, you'll be in heavy debt after the winter months, as £20 per month for gas CH and DHW is not nearly enough-that's only 65p per day!

  • Thanks my gas account is £65 in credit still,a nd my electricity is about £50 in credit (so I thought!). I will see if I can find the relevant information in regards to my annual useage.

That is nothing like enough gas credit I'm afraid. You could be using that in a month in cold weather.
Your annual kWnh figs are available from your bills or by phoning your supplier.

  • Is this of any help?

That's simply your last electricity bill, April-October. I thought we were concerned with your gas consumption? You have used 1,752 kWh of electricity in 6m. If you want your annual consumption, you need to go back to the meter reading from a bill a year ago, or from a year since about 20/10/11. Deduct old from new, that's your annual consumption.
Same principle with gas, except you'll need to convert meter units to kWh using the relevant formula (basically multiply by 11 or 31 depending on whether your meter is metric or imperial).

  • Sorry cant find that information on my online account, thanks for your help though. Seriously worried now.
