From halfords or any other place, is there any liquid solution that you get, for your Outside windows

which Prevents rain from stickign on to it, (like in the frosty mornings)

I dont mean which eliminates rain 100%, but reduces it by a lot- for the winter mornings??

like a demistyfier liquid solution - you put on the outside of windows in the daytime

and How often do you have to apply it on the windows? - every day?

  • This is what you need.

Available from most motor accessory shops.
Very easy to apply and depending on how often you drive, only has to be reapplied about once a week or once every 10 days or so.

It helps the rain form beads so clears quicker, It wont prevent mist or frost on the outside.

Anti mist/fog solutions work on the inside.

Want a clear screen in frosty mornings, You need a cover.

Next best thing is a heated windscreen.

Sorry if I was unclear. I think rainx is brilliant stuff

I have been using rainx for the past couple of weeks. On motorways in the rain you dont even need to use wipers - the water just flys off! I cant comment on how well it prevents frost but I've not had any in the morning since using it.

For frost prevention people quite often put a rag over their windscreen the night before as the condesation gets caught in this and not on their windscreen. Inside and out will need to be covered for both sides to remain frost free on really chilly mornings.

    Rainx in its most convient form comes in 500ml (I think) spray on bottles. With regard to how long it lasts, well think of it this way;

When you clean the inside of the windows in your house, you would spray them with some sort of window cleaning solution in the same size bottle. Applying rainx to your car is no different to applying window cleaner to windows in your house. Spray on and polish 'till its dry.

Halfords, Asda and a few other places have 3 for 2 deals on winter automotive maintenance stuff at the moment which is probably also available at other supermarkets etc. Rainx itself costs £7.99 (Asda & Halfrauds) most of the time but in conjunction with this offer you will obviously get it for under £6 with 2 other similarly priced products - quite dear but worth it.

Like I said, I've only been using it for a few weeks and have not needed to reapply it. Whenever your car is clean after being washed is obviously the time to apply it. A bottle should last you more than a year.

    You can't stop it.......

It's all about "relative humidity" and "dew points". Any cold surface will attract moisture (just like a cold drinks glass).
Your car cools over night, then as the air temp starts to fall below dew point, the relatives humidity hits near 100% and moisture starts to shed/fall onto cold objects. Then because it's so cold, it freezes solid.

Covering the screen over night will help, in fact just parking under a car port would help, but the only real solution ive found is to plonk a small mains heater on a timer inside the car 15 mins before you leave.

To be honest, these solutions aren't that great an idea.

They will work very well on new glass but the effect doesn't last too long (1 to 2 weeks). Then you tend to find that there is a point where you WILL need to use your wipers again. The problem then is that your wipers make your vision worse because instead of the water forming a nice wetted film which wipes away you get a film of discrete water droplets which cause huge glare at night with oncoming lights.

Of course, this doesn't sound like a downside if you are going to apply on a regular basis but as a rule the product becomes less effective as your windscreen wears and the little droplets start getting caught in the inperfections.

I used it when my windscreen was new, 130000 miles and 6 six years ago.....you can still tell it's there but I wouldn't dare to renew it now.
