When we got our sons mobile with talk mobile and cpw , the guy in the shop definately said there was a £50 cap that he cant go over.....so I would fight this tooth and nailI would love some decent telly on a Saturday night0

T-Mobile U-Fix tarrifs used to let you cap spend ie you could only spend the monthly subscription on call s but not at a credit limit such as £50.
I'd suggest you get that verified in writing by Talk Mobile.
There may be a credit limit but that usually does not function as an off switch if exceeded instantly

3.11. ....... Once we have established that you have exceeded your Credit Limit (which may take some time particularly if using your roaming service), the Services will be suspended until payment of all Charges (including any reconnection charge) has been made and you will on attempting to make any call, be automatically diverted to our customer services to arrange such payment.
3.12. Please note that the Credit Limit does not act as a bar and you may be able to incur Charges which result in you exceeding your Credit Limit. If this happens, you will still be liable to pay for all Charges incurred in excess of your Credit Limit.0 -
That is true, however in situations such as this, it's generally done with the intention not to pay.Based on what? DD isn;t the only way to pay. There is absolutely nothing wrong with cancelling a DD, most companies you ask you to let them know that you've cancelled, that way alternative payment can be arranged if necessary.
So I guess I shall clarify: cancelling the DD so you don't pay the full amount is a very bad thing.0 -
OP needs to advise how the charges were made up. The SIM may have been sent abroad and used there, in which case they are roaming charges and the cap does not apply.No free lunch, and no free laptop

This is an insurance claim, but only for calls made from the date the phone was blocked. The call limit by CW has only ever been an aspiration, not a mandatory limit. Voice calls are blocked, ONLY - not roaming calls, international calls or premium texts. The liability (as ever) remains with the contract holder, which I assume will be yourself, and not your son. If there's no insurance, the contract holder has the liability in full unless there is a negotiated reduction.
So, looking forward, cancelling the DD will result in non-DD charges being applied (per contract) and these would remain even assuming a credit of some sort was agreed. If it isn;t, it would be your credit file that is trashed, not your son's. This is not an unknown situation as CW have already been able to explain the cap is offered in conjunction with their network partner and can be removed if the account is conducted correctly.
It is not a safety-net for the user, and never had been - sadly. The service that is, is called PAYG.0
