  • Today has not been so good. Ds had a terrible night and we hardly had any sleep; DH was also up all night with a tummy bug and has been off work today, so he must really be feeling poorly. Ds is at nursery today, so I managed to get back to bed for a few hours this morning which I only do if I'm exhausted.
Needless to say, I haven't got as much done as I'd have liked to today.

One load of washing is done and is in the dryer. I've also run some washing machine cleaner through the machine too.

I've sorted out all of Ds's clothes as he's growing out of a lot of them at the moment. I need to sort out what's suitable for eBay and what needs to go to the charity shop/ to pass on etc.
I've also started another bag for the charity shop with household bits etc. I really am on a decluttering mission at the moment and am desperate to free up some space. I need to tackle the attic soon as there's loads of stuff up there which needs to be sorted.
We dropped one bag of stuff to the charity shop on Saturday, I'm sure they will soon be getting a lot more!
I have been thinking I should save some of the stuff to do a car boot sale, but I'm wondering whether it's worth storing stuff until the weather gets better and I can do one.

You sound like you have had another trying day. Your poor DH being ill again :(.

On the car booting, it depends how much you think you could clear in profit. If it is worthwhile you could put the stuff in boxes/bags in the loft and if you have time to do the car boot, at least it is all ready. If not, it is ready packaged to go to the charity shop!

What are the car boot sales like in your area? I was really surprised when I went to my local one. I was helping out a friend and could not believe how cheap people expected things to be. They would even start haggling over something costing 30p. A few of the stalls were selling homemade food which I wasn't expecting. Otherwise it was low value antiques, rather than normal household stuff, whose value should have been based on scrap metal rather than the ridiculous prices the stall owners were trying to charge.

I was supposed to be helping my friend sell stuff to clear out a big cupboard she needed to use for something else and she also could do with the extra cash. The people on the next pitch to us decided to pack up early and asked me if I wanted their unsold items for free. My friend had just gone to get us some drinks so I was on my own and it seemed like such a good idea at the time to say yes. I thought the sale finished 4 hours later when it in fact finished in half an hour's time. I accepted loads of clothes (like half a car full). And a 6 foot artificial Christmas tree (it was June). I was not popular!

I've just been to my first exercise class of the year after a three week break. It was fine and I just need to stick at it this year. It is so much easier to maintain a level of fitness than my usual trick of just getting fit, then stopping, then having to start from scratch again.... Remind me of this later in the year....

Hope tomorrow is better day for you x

  • Wow, I bet your friend has never asked you to help with a car boot since, chocs! How funny! You did make me chuckle though!

Well done on the fitness effort, this is an area I really need to address in my own life but don't really know how I'd find the time to be honest. I did get a wake up call this morning in monsoon whilst trying to find something to buy in exchange for something else. Their changing room mirrors really do 'show you how it looks'... And it looked baaaaad. That's me, not the clothing. I was shocked into action, so came home and rejoined ww online via the free offer/cashback deal and have eaten like a saint since. This has to be the start of the new me (or rather, getting the old me back), as I'm really unhappy with the present model.
  • we did a car boot sale a while ago and said never again, it just seemed like unless it was something new or actually valuable then people didnt want it or wanted to pay 10p for it needless to say we made about a £5.

If its lots of kid clothes what about a baby sale, we have a baby nearly new sale that runs in our area at different venues probably once every 2 months, they are always packed in fact people queue up to get in!! Good for if you have toys, baby stuff to get rid of as well.

We haven't spent the vouchers/money we are saving them for when we need to replace items, guaranteed if i went and spent them on something nice my work pants would split the next day or hubby would burn a shirt ironing it etc etc my ds is getting ready for some new shoes as well.

Sorry to hear your ds hasnt been well, hope he feels better soon

  • I've been a busy bee today. This morning, after dropping Ds at nursery and DH at work, I popped to the supermarket to pick up some supplies. Ended up spending £33, but that did include 2 waterproof backed picnic rugs reduced to £2 each. We've been looking for affordable waterproof ones for ages, shame they're shocking pink, but nevermind.

I then dropped some baby equipment/ toys etc at Ds's nursery for them to make use of (and clear some space in our house).

Next, I returned some items to monsoon - a dress I bought ages ago with the view to wearing it to the weddings we have coming up this year, and two cover up cardis I bought to try with it. Last night I talked some sense into myself and decided to return the above and wear the perfectly ok outfit I already have in my wardrobe. So, £32 was returned to the bank account and £42 to a gift card which I had to use there and then. After trying on several other awful (on me) outfits, decided to buy something I actually need to replace and picked up a coat.

Oops, gotta dash to pick hubby up, will finish later!
  • As I was saying, a busy day...

Once back from the shops, I set to on a decluttering mission, starting with the top shelf of our built in wardrobe where lots of 'stuff' resides. Managed to clear a bit, but not a lot, so onwards and upwards I went to the attic. To cut a long story short, I cleared 5 bags for the charity shop; a bag and a half of baby clothes for a friend and a bin bag full of baby clothes to eBay which fills me with both joy (extra cash), and fear (photos, listing, posting bleurgh...) it's extra money though so needs must.

I also managed to sort the presents I have already for birthdays and christmas and stored some of them away in the attic.

Two loads of washing has also been washed and dried. If only I could have two days off like this every week and my life and house would be so organised! :0)
  • Blimey, you have been a busy bee today. That is a lot of stuff you have cleared out in one day :).

The top shelf of my wardrobe is definitely on my hit list. There are so many clothes stacked up and it's not just that some need to go, the ones I want get so creased that I don't end up wearing them. I might have a go at it this weekend. Last time I threatened to sort it out, I stood on a chair to reach one pile and discovered to my horror that there were also piles of clothes behind the ones I normally see at the front. Heaven knows how old those clothes are. I confess I left them there for another day.

Good luck with ww. I am sure you have the drive to keep up the healthy eating. I haven't quite got the hang of healthy eating and exercise. I find I can manage one (at most) at any one time. Both seems to be beyond my capabilities.

I suppose it is like money; an event can be a lightbulb moment and bring about the enthusiasm and willpower to make long lasting changes. You might just incentivise me to have another go at changing my diet. Says the person whose snacks today have been one pain au chocolat, a banana, 6 biscuits, a W!spa, a bowl of fruit salad, two bags of crisps, a cereal bar and a piece of chocolate gateau. Gosh, it is only now I have thought back to everything I have eaten today that I realise just how much rubbish I have eaten :o. And I had a proper breakfast, a roast dinner at work and a Chinese tonight. If you hadn't mentioned food I wouldn't have given a second thought to what I have eaten today. I can't believe it. I may have just been shamed to the point of having a lightbulb moment :rotfl:.

    I really am speechless now.

I'll be back when I have recovered from the shock ;).

  • Our posts must have crossed sugarcube, just seen this one...
I know what you mean about car boots. We have had varying success, making over £200 one time to nothing at all a different time! I've decided to give that option the boot (excuse the pun!) and have decided the stuff between a charity pile, a friend on a low income with a little boy and a bag to put on eBay. Couldn't face the thought of a car boot.
Great idea about the children and baby stuff sale, I never thought of that, but shall look into it. Thanks!

  • Blimey! I'm very jealous of your menu for yesterday, sounds like a great day, particularly the Chinese! I'm not very good at combining the diet and exercise thing either, as you said, one or the other. I'm thinking that, as I don't have the chance to do much about getting regular exercise at the moment, other than walking which is weather dependent, then I'll try and manage the food side of things... I just keep thinking of the image of my backside in that mirror, and it soon puts me off! (sorry!).

Right, Ds napping so am going to whizz round and get a few bits done.

Have a good day all xx
