Thanks squeaky and shandy for the informative posts.
Apparently, the washing machine was making strange noises during the week.
The washing machine trips out all sockets, also turned the dishwasher on (as it is next to washing machine) and that works fine. So I reckon it must be the actual washing machine rather than any socket?
Managed to manually drain water and empty washing machine (and tried different connections to get it working but it still trips out), now going to buy a new one - after all it has seen 8 years service and need to get an energy efficient one.0 -

So give us some clues and we might be able to help
It sounds very much as though the motor has gone from what you are saying - but that's a guess from a lot of miles away
It's up to you to decide whether or not replacing the motor is a cost effective option.Hi, I'm a Board Guide on the Old Style and the Consumer Rights boards which means I'm a volunteer to help the boards run smoothly and can move and merge posts there. Update: New Hotpoint washing machine being delivered on Monday!
Whilst at the shop - we also picked up a freezer for the garage as well - so not really a top moneysaving day!0 -
You might be able to give away the washing machine on Freecycle.
Be honest and say up front that you think the motor has gone - but there's a chance that someone will want it for spares or to repair. If not, all it cost you was an email
