How to undo wrong credit default status?

in Credit cards
Hi - I wonder if you can help me? I have signed up for 1 months free trial with Experian. My credit rating has been ruined because my daughter held an account with Avon (makeup etc) in my name. I have been registered as not paying for what we owed for about 4 months in a row. The fact was that my daughter had returned goods to Avon and they said they hadnt received them but they had - so it kept registering as a defaulted payment. They eventually cleared it up and I received an email apologising from them saying they had received the goods and they admitted they hadnt treated me very well! BUT looking at my credit report it has come up as defaulted with various late payments - but at the end it says it is now "settled" and "satisfactory".
What can I do to erase these "red" marks?! And is there any chance of compensation as my credit status has been reuined? Any advise would be welcome!!

You need to get the company that has admitted the error, to fix the records that they send to the CRA's (credit reference agencies). And is there any chance of compensation as my credit status has been reuined?
Virtually none, unless you can get proof you would have got credit without this information and that you have sustained a loss as a result.
Do you have that proof?0 -
Hi -
Thank you for replying. No - I dont have any proof that I actually would have got credit if that hadnt been on my record.
If I contact the company (Avon) - how long will it take for them to have the wrong information removed?0 -
Could in theory be up to 2 months... just depends on cut offs and data being passed back and forth... However I would really leave out the fact the account in your name was for your daughter... that means either she was too young to do Avon (under 18) or had a very bad credit record (and it would have to be awful! I used to be an Avon Sales Leader and NEVER had anyone turned down) - either way the terms clearly state you can't take out an Avon account on behalf of anyone else...DFW Nerd #025DFW no more! Hi -
No! She hasnt got a bad credit rating!! She was under 18 and it was all above board with the Avon Manager who came to see us both! I was her "guarantor" and willingly let her use my name. Thank you for replying!! Two months is a long time! I'd better get on to it tomorrow!0 -
If they agree the data is inaccurate they should rectify it swiftly. Lenders who share data with Experian can request emergency updates that take effect overnight.

I doubt that will happen.
I asked Avon to stop sending my husband stuff as he was deceased.
They said that due to the data protection act that he would need to call personally !!!
Luckily he hadn't actually died, I just thought that might get them to sort it.0 -

or she can file a complaint directly to you online or over the phone an you liaise with them to get it rectified which is often easier than going straight to the company and getting past customer services to the correct dept
