Smart phone SIM

Please can anyone tell me if it is true that the SIM from a smart phone (HTC Sensation) cannot be utilised in a non smart phone.
I want to put the SIM into an older Nokia that is unlocked but am told it will not work.
Also is it possible to extract the data from a smart phone ie the contacts and details by putting the memory/data card into a card reader?
Thanks.:o

I am pretty sure that this is untrue (excluding iPhone's micro sim that will require an adapter). Also, '3' sim will work only in a 3g enabled handset.

I think theoretically it is possible to extract everything saved on the memory card, but there are better ways to extract contacts, like synchronisation with a PC or an online account.
  • You can use any sim in any phone accept mini sims which are iphone specific.

Easiest way to transfer contacts is a grumbler says via sync or cloud service.

Micro sims can currently be used in the iPhone 4 and 4S as well as the Nokia N9 and Lumia 710 and 800 natively. You can get a converter to make a micro sim into a mini sim size.

    OK, thanks all.
I have a need to take the SIM FROM the HTC and use it in a Nokia 6230i. I have no idea as yet whether the HTC SIM is micro, mini or standard.

It'll just be a standard mini sim card. I don't think HTC make any phones yet that accept micro-sims.

    E.g. with Gmail (google mail).

Sim card readers are only a couple of quid and you can just backup to PC and wipe any contacts not wanted .

Most Smartphones have software that backs up contacts to a PC .

Provided that the contacts are saved on the sim card, that generally is not the case.

I used the SIM from my smartphone (HTC Desire HD) in my old Nokia when I went abroad this summer.

    Worked just fine.
