is there anyway (apart from not over parking) to prevent my details from being given to these companies from the DVLA?

Even worse than that, private individuals can access your details in the same way. So if you have a bit of a road rage incident, then a member of the public can find your home address. Last time I looked, it costs a whole £2.50 to find out.
  • Just reiterating that fact that you should IGNORE the scammers trying to get £70 from you. Check the Parking Ticket forum for more help and reassurance!
One important thing to remember is that when you get to the end of this sentence, you'll realise it's just my sig.

I like it when car park companies pay for my details. It costs them money which they don't get back.
  • I have no intention of paying!

If anyone knows any good lawyers or wants to offer their support for me to take DVLA to court. I would be up for that!! I think its a joke that the DVLA can give out details for non criminal offences so easily.

Just a thought but would you know if a private individual had accessed your details, ie would the DVLA let you know?
  • I doubt it very much. They don't really give a damn about service they just want to take money from anyone that offers it.

... they just want to take money from anyone that offers it.
... and extort it from those who don't offer :rotfl:

Nope, unless they've changed it recently, no warning. Just fill in the following form,

    http://www.direct.gov.uk/prod_consum_dg/groups/dg_digitalassets/@dg/@en/@motor/documents/digitalasset/dg_065303.pdf

In section 4, just put that the vehicle is parked on your (private) land.

In section 5, put that it is for you to issue a court summons and viola, for £2.50 you can have someone's private details including their home address, no questions asked.

It's all about da money and NuLabour made it possible so that the DVLA can flog your details to anyone. Obviously it would be illegal to fraudulently apply for someone's details, but then someone intent on doing you damage is hardly likely to be worried about that.

DVLA have been doing this for years, when I had more time I took advice from Pepipoo and complained to DVLA after a parking company unlawfully obtained RK details. Three letters and three faxes to DVLA "never reached them."

My MP at the time was more worried about losing his seat at the election to take up the complaint (he did lose his seat which was deserved).

Also it should be noted that DVLA can not be taken to court as they are covered by Crown immunity (as far as I'm aware).
  • Crown Immunity? Tpypical!
