How to stop DVLA from giving out my details requested by Car Parking Companies

Hi guys,
i was recently parked for 4 hours, 1 hour past the 3 hour limit at a tesco carpark.
A few weeks later i got a letter advising me I have to pay £70.
I called DVLA and asked them why they would give out my details without my permission to a car parking company.
They said that if the car parking companies have signed up with the DVLA and if they show reasonable cause that the rules/offence have been broken then the DVLA were legally obliged to hand over vehicle details.
is there anyway (apart from not over parking) to prevent my details from being given to these companies from the DVLA?

Dont own a car. I think thats about it really.
Anyone with a fiver and a reasonable excuse can get your info, Is it still a fiver?
Show reasonable cause... I have a nice crisp £5 note ..... is that reason enough?
They probably pay a lot less than that for bulk purchases though.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -

While not answering the original question, you do know to just ignore that letter, right?0

You could take the DVLA to court over this, once there is a case ruling at at high court the DVLA will no longer be able to do it. If you're going to do this, make sure you geta good lawyer we don't want you messing it up for everyone else who would then have to take it to the Lords.
The only reason we now have an opt out on the registor of electors is because someone took their council to court and won, now the councils have to ask your permission to sell your information.0 -
Echoins Lum here, please do not pay it, it is an invoice NOT a parking ticket. Check the name of the company on the ticket and look it up on here, you will see exactly what goes on, all the empty threats they will make etc. What is this life if, full of care, we have no time to stand and stare0

Probably a bit dodgy but register it in a foreign name at your address. If the police want to get in touch for speeding etc then obviously you'll have to reply as the owner otherwise bad things might happen but private parking companies etc can then be safely ignored as the registered keeper is 'abroad'.
The owner doesn't have to legally be the registered keeper and likewise there is no rule that says the RK can't go abroad either. I think you'll find the PPCs are stuffed from that point on.0 -

Don't do that or you'll never get documents and tax discs.0 -
