Are you an IT support person for elderly relations?

After yet another frustrating visit to "fix" my 80 year old dad's PC (nothing wrong with it), I came across this alternative take on Silver Surfers in the Daily Mash

http://www.thedailymash.co.uk/news/society/elderly-parents-reveal-plan-to-buy-!!!!-computer-201111184563/

My dad seems to have a complulsion to set his favourites as desktop icons instead of keeping them on the favourites bar in folders. You cannot see his lovely desktop background. Someone must have instructed him to do this, he could not simply make it up - could he?

No. Being older, I'm more an IT support person for 'youngerly' relations. :)

The government has recently come under renewed pressure to ban the sale of computer equipment to the over-60s.

  • I have to admit, I was thinking the same as closed!

I hate desktops with loads of icons, my OH's old PA used to keep all the invoices she made as icons, not quite suite where the desktop ended!!
What is this life if, full of care, we have no time to stand and stare

    How about starting a mini-rant thread? ;)

Not in a bad way, but just to let off some steam/frustration in the knowledge that others understand your pain.:)

I'm sure many have tales to tell. :rotfl:

Just for the record, the ability to [STRIKE]fu[/STRIKE] mess up a pc is not relative to age, my 'customers' ages range from 14 to 84.
    Move along, nothing to see.

Nope, boyfriend does all that! He's an IT Technician anyway, so I sidestep that one.

If I tell you who I work for, I'm not allowed to help you. If I don't say, then I can help you with questions and fixing products. Regardless, there's still no secret EU law.
    Now 20% cooler

Cheers for that recommendation - I've just had a play around and it looks much better than the other remote apps I've tried. I'll definitely be using it at some point...
