  • I transferred the £7 over that I made from paypal and after postage that left me £3.18 which I paid off the Virgin card.
I have sold another item and have already been paid so that’s another £15 to move over tomorrow (need to take postage out)
OH has had some tests today and there may be a health reason why he is struggling to keep weight on. We are not googling and will wait for the results next week. If it is what he has been tested for it would mean giving up his current job which is a worry. Without any debts I could support him if he couldn’t work at all (he would still want to work but it would need to be a different type of job) so I need to get more serious with paying this off just in case.
My New Year’s resolution is not to book anything to try and save money
  • Well today was the day, we have been told officially our team is moving to London. As they can’t force us to move they have had to procedurally put us under notice of redundancy. It’s a short stern letter. They want us all to move, we are already 2 team members short. Tomorrow (Thursday for me as I am off tomorrow) they will tell us what the redundancy package is and what extra pay (or not) we will get for commuting to London (at the moment they pay for our travel and parking when we travel to London) They have already confirmed they will give us a one off payment of £1690 net (half a season ticket from our regional office). We then have a week to decide. If we do move we get a 4 week trial and then we can decide to take redundancy or carry on. Logically I know I have a job, irrationally I am petrified, in 16 years of work I have luckily never been under threat of redundancy. OH is having medical tests that may affect his ability to do his current job. I am trying not to worry.
  • Good luck with the work trial, I guess you just have to see how it goes. What sector are you in? Good chance of getting something else?

I did wonder about your OH's health when you first posted about how much he eats. I hope it is something which can be easily dealt with.
  • Don’t hit me but I am in Investment Banking! (No I don’t get million pound bonuses!) One of us needs a steady job and I have already half decided to take the move. I was half expecting us to be moved anyway. I could get another job but my non compete is so strict it would be a hassle.
OH is being tested for ankylosing spondylitis, one of the symptoms is weight loss.
If I do take the 1690 should I pay this off debt and pay the train ticket out my salary or should I save it and use it for the train ticket?

Gosh you do have a lot on your plate. I dont know anything about your OH suspected condition but if it means that he wont be able to work it will be a good thing that you move with your job. How far will you be having to travel on a daily basis?

Not sure what to suggest about the travel money - is one of your debts a credit card - if you pay it off that you can always use the card if needed in an emergency but at the same time save a bit of interest? I dunno - tough decisions - not easy all round.
  • Well 3 of our team hit the streets of London for a run at lunchtime, we ran 3.7 miles (2 of us are giving up the work gym) we all feel a bit better. I didn’t spend any money, I do need to take something to the post office later which I sold for £10 but I need to take postage out.
We have OH’s birthday day out at the Tennis at the Royal Albert Hall which should be good fun and I have a night out with my running friends from home tonight. Pip pip, onwards and upwards
Lam, OH will be able to work but just not in the job he has, the condition is a degenerative spine condition and his job is the most physical one I can think of. He doesn’t know anything else so it might mean retraining or a salary drop. Me travelling to London is fine, I have done it before and I will do it again (thinking of the positive I love reading so I get time to catch up on the books)
  • well my friends cancelled dinner as 2 were ill so I have saved at least £20 plus petrol as a minimum which is good (not for them clearly)
I am now waiting for my jacket potato to do its all action packed round here!!
  • Well yesterday was OH’s birthday day out. The station car park was full so we found another long stay and OH paid the £2.80 (usually £5.50), this will also help when I have to start paying for my own parking. The train tickets came out of savings. We headed for the tower of London and only got to spend an hour and a half there. I saved £10 in total by pre booking the tickets to the Tower but I hadn’t factored in the guide book at £4.95. It took us a lot longer than expected to then get to the Royal Albert Hall so we ended up buying lunch and drinks and snacks from there at a total cost of £24.90 (not very money saving at all). The Tennis was amazing. On the way home we had to stop to get milk and squash but I did manage to dissuade OH from getting takeaway fish and chips and made him a homemade omelette special instead whilst I had left over curry and rice from the freezer.
Yesterday I posted another item and made £8.28 after postage. I kept 5.00 towards the day out and paid 3.28 towards my credit card today as part of my PAD.
Today I stopped at the petrol station and would have spent £15.03 but I only had a £20 note and the man had no change so he let me off the 3p! I also noted their milk was 20p more than mr t so I did my usual diversion on the way to the London office and spent 49p on milk and £1.30 on tea. I have £7.91 to last me until the end of Saturday but I have enough cereal for today and tomorrow at work, bought my lunch for work today and will do the same tomorrow. I need to buy a fabric pen to make part of my secret santa but other than that should survive okay on that.:)
  • Yesterday I made a payment of 60p to my sealed pot and £1 today. I got £11 back from my flat parking permit so I paid £5.50 off my credit card and kept £5.50 in savings. I have sold another item so I am waiting for the money to come in (£15 before postage fees paid). Today I used left over milk from yesterday so have spent £1.30 on tea. I have bought my lunch with me and am going running again at lunchtime to keep me away from the shops! I still have £6.61 to last me until tomorrow evening so hopefully I will have a couple of quid left to pay off cc after I have bought a craft pen.
I have also just had a text from my riding instructor. She lives on a farm and they are selling sacks of potatoes for £5 for 25 kg so on Sunday I will pick a sack up that should last us a long time (any tips on storing them welcome)
    Have a good weekend all

hi - you seem to be doing very well watching the cashflow. Good on you for all the running as well - I tried running but it just doesnt come easy to me and then finding time is my other excuse :D I march the horses up to their field everyday and the old boy is sometimes a big miffed at the speed he has to go lol.

I am sure I read somewhere in the old style moneysaving part of the forum that some one bought a sack of potatoes and kept them in the shed and they lasted ages. I know you might not have a shed but I suppose then somewhere dark and cool?
