Hi lexilex. York Youth Hostel is not booked up, and they have twin rooms for £18.40 per person per night. Youth Hostels are a lot nicer than you think, comfortable, modern, with all facilities. Check them out. Manchester also has beds on the 31st.

I've spent about 6 hours today looking at b&b's and hotels in York. I've got my heart set on it now. I don't really think a hostel is for us, I couldn't share a bathroom :o but thanks for the suggestion! I'm going to have another look tomorrow, email a few b&b's asking if they can let us know if they get any cancellations.

    Hi lexilex
I understand what you are saying. I have just been on the phone to the YHA, they have a 4 bedded room available at York, en suite, on 31st December for the price of £49. For non members there would be an extra charge of £3 per person bringing it to £55 total. They would not put anyone else in the room, it would be yours. If you wanted to, you could take a couple of friends with you and share the cost, making it even cheaper.

I don't know how this compares with ordinary B & B's or hotels. Hostels provide breakfast and evening meal if you want it, but I always take my own food and use the members kitchen, (usually very clean), as it keeps the cost down.

Whatever you decide, I hope you have a lovely time.

Thanks, that actually sounds okay, I shall have a look today.

I am going mad with it now, been looking again this morning (and missed out on the GHD's on Amazon because of it ) and there's nothing. Our limit really is about £70. Everywhere is either way over that or a min or two/three nights. :(
  • Stirling has a street party with fireworks at the castle.Personally I think it is more fun than the larger version in Edinburgh( and a YHA close to the event)
