Can't hold down a job

I'm sick of not being able to hold down a job, I've had an obscene amount of jobs in my 9 years of working. I'm in another where I can see where it's heading. The travel is !!!!!. The money isn't exactly rewarding. I'm just not settling here at all.

That shouldn't be an issue as I'm only staying for 10 weeks as I intend to move to Tenerife on the 27th Jan, however even that is not seeming to motivate me.

I was hoping to do a medical trial which would get me £1192 which would arrive the day I'm due to leave for Tenerife, would cover 3 months advance monthly payments giving me perfect opportunity to actually find a job out there comfortably however I've got the time off for the actual trial but work won't let me have 2 hours this wednesday so I can do the screening process. There is no rational reason for not letting me have this time either which is just making me hate this place more!!

Had to vent, sorry.

Maybe you have to re-think your attitude to the jobs you are taking on!

If your employers need you to work on Wednesday, the fact that you are embarking on a medical trial - so not exactly necessary for your health, then I can see why they are saying "no".

Perhaps we should be glad that you are going to Tenerife ....can you take some of the other CBA's with you too??

What job do you actually want to do? It sounds as if you are going into jobs that you don't want to be in so don't bother much to give them your best, by doing that you are selling your employer short and yourself!

What has been said is spot on. I'm not enjoying the work I'm doing. When you don't have a trade and don't know what you want to do then that's exactly what you do. I'm not going to be a statistic on the unemployment list so I'll accept any job as it pays a wage. I've been back in the country since September 9th, I'm in my second job, rightly or wrongly if a job comes up I'll take it as opposed to being out of work, even if this means selling the employer short which I'm certainly doing here.

As for the Wednesday off, I've just been in the office, I'm not happy at all, it's pure akwardness, like a stamping of authority, they can not give a decent rationale other than because I said so.

Call centre work is going to be the death of me :(

It's called 'the reality' I'm afraid. I never knew what I wanted to do, I now have a better idea but unfortunately, none of my dream jobs pay the wages that I like.

Therefore, I have made a conscious decision to work in a job that I can do well, which pays me well, but which I don't particularly enjoy. I do it for the money - in short. Still, I remind myself every day how lucky I am, that without this job I could not have the other things in life that I enjoy. I still try to give my 100% to my employer- that's what he pays me for. As far as I'm concerned it's a business transaction.

Lucky those people that can make a living from something that they enjoy. Still I'm on a temporary contract so it's head down and try to pay off the mortgage as much as possible before the contract expires...

Money doesn't equate to happiness, I couldn't care less about the wage as long as it covers me. It's daily happiness that counts.

What's Lanzarote got to do with anything?

Spoilt? Spoilt would imply that I've life handed to me on a plate, far cry from that.

  • Be treat like $h17, do boring mundane $h17, be expected to do lots of it and meet unrealistic targets - get £6.08 per hour for the privilege. Welcome to the workforce.

    I'm hearing that.

I think it's more the fact that I spent 5/6 years working on the phones in a call centre then somehow I've managed to move away from the phones doing other more challenging roles and now being back on the phones it's killing me. I need to be doing something.

It's also more about this grand for a medical trial. I can't believe they wont afford me 2 hours off on wednesday. That's going to cost me a grand, the thought makes me sick.
