But my facts are straight. You signed a legally binding contract that you have done a runner from. Just because Dubai insist on 12 months rent up front blah blah has absolutely no bearing on this, or is that how you justify your theft?

The legally binding contract is also legal ONLY in Dubai. Are you also aware of the millions the 'thieving' arabs owe to the UK, do ensure you have a go at them for their naughty tricks too...

Have you tried posting on some of the expat forums for Dubai? Perhaps someone would be able to help you? We live in Dubai but have no loans because of the lack of emoloyment laws here, we do know of someone who left but they are paying the debt back now from the US.

I know you never intend to return here ( don't blame you - not as fabulous a place as it would like to think it is!) but if you were on a plane and it had to divert to any middle East country you may find yourself in trouble.

Yes I am aware-thanks :) , yes maybe I will look at those forums. I have spoken to a solicitor in UK and as I handed car back to them and kept payments-there isnt anything they could do. Aside from the huge fact they have absolutely NO power legally in the UK anyway

Or you could man up and pay your debts. Someone is out of pocket because of your behaviour. Just because you didn't put your hands in a till, doesn't mean you're not a thief.

When the UAE legal system enters the 21st century and becomes fair then maybe they won't have this problem of people leaving without paying debts etc.,

Thieving Arabs is right. The labour court is so biased and corrupt in Dubai it left us with no choice but to leave owing money. My answer to anyone is when the UAE pays me the 6 months salary it owes me then I will pay my debts.

So you owe money to the car company, and are not paying because some other company in Dubai owes you money for wages?

That is akin to saying, I have a credit card with RBS, but I'm not paying them because M&S owe me my wages for the last 6 months, therefore the UK owes me money.

Sorry I agree with the previous poster - pay your debts.
Don't enter credit agreements if you're not going to pay them.

However, as the car seller has received 9 months payment plus the car back (If the ever received the car - maybe it was stolen when left outside there premises before they ever got it?)
You should query the amount of the debt, but should be prepared to pay what you owe!

Lazer- in Dubai whether you owe a bank and a company owe you money- its all one big pot out there! they all stick together and the Sheiks own most companies etc

Dubai throw money at you to pay rent upfront-and the minute you lose your job-the company you work force has a right to tell your bank- and they stop you doing everything- as if when you lose your job you can pay the whole amount back there and then-THATS what they expect-they is no 'payment plan'- they make it hard for themselves and the people that are in this situation!

your comments are noted but you really do not know what their crazy system is like out there-and the choices they leave you make -whether you want to or not. Its taken them 2 and 1/2 years t o even contact me-thats how slack they are and stupid> They need to change thei systems
  • Hi. Im the same in many ways like others. I owe 300,000 after a crazy 2 years there and 3 years away. I am paying back what I can but of course the threats start coming now and even more. I am sending this to the posts boards at the moment: I would love to talk more

Having been away from Dubai for 3 years I am well aware of the Debt I owe and make every effort with the banks to pay back what I can monthly to ensure over time it is paid back. I have all the contacts like they have my contacts and I have not run away from my Debt like some people do. Now I am getting very angry and I will take action against these collection agents with the tactics they use and the stories I have read in how they treat people. It is against the federal collection law for the tactics they use and they are causing a large problem for the banks. Bilkish being the worse, Tahseel, TrustDC I am sure there are more but one word is DISGRACEFUL.
They have called and emailed every work place that I have been at even though they have my details trying to cause problems which actually makes me laugh because they are putting themselves in grave danger and then calling friends and family to further put themselves in danger of going against the law.

I refuse to pay anything now until these collection agencies and there agents are brought to justice and that there methods are reviewed and sorted.

Let this be a message to you are I am not afraid and never will be. I am guessing half of you are in debt in Dubai and many of you working there are from India, Phillipines and Pakistan which further makes me laugh

You need to understand that the laws in the UAE are very different to in the UK. There is not really the same idea of bankruptcy, or being able to write off or walk away from your debts. If you owe it, you owe it.

You've possibly been very lucky being able to get out, there are plenty of stories of people working there losing their job, being unable to pay off their mortgage, and having their passports taken off them indefinitely.

Which law do you think that they are going against, by the way, and why do you believe that they are bound by it?

    Evening from Thailand.

I'm no expert on Dubai but I have lived in Thailand for a decade and know of several people who have debts in the Uk but are untouchable over here as there is no reciprocal agreement between the two countries.

HOWEVER I would never condone not paying a debt as others have said you don't know what the future will bring and even a stopover in Dubai can result in a nightmare situation.

Different situation but same city - I know of someone who was on anti-depressants in the UK and had them on a prescription from his doctor. He came to Thailand and found that the chemists over here sell the medication without the need for a prescription so he would just buy them over here without consulting a doctor.

Prior to a return trip to the UK he bought a bottle of the pills at a chemist over here to avoid him having to go to the doctors in the Uk. His plane stopped in Dubai. He was arrested trying to board his second flight after a search of his bag revealed the bottle of pills but no prescription to support it.

He spent over three months in prison in Dubai before the case was dropped.

It's not a country whose laws I would recommend breaking.
