Help - debt from Dubai being chased

  • If used car prices in Dubai are anything like here, the fact that you paid 9 months off a loan and returned a 9 months old car is not likely to be a "fair" exchange. The seller will almost certainly be out of pocket.

I couldn't comment on whether there is any legal recourse for the seller in the UK, but have you considered the possibility that it could affect your credit rating?

I have transited through Dubai (admittedly some years ago) with an out of date but not cancelled Dubai residence visa in my passport, and was pulled up for it. I eventually talked my way onward, but it was not a pleasant experience, and if there is a flag on your name or passport in the system with a court order attached to it, you'll almost certainly be held. Dubai jails are not pleasant places - steer clear!
A bank is a place that will lend you money if you can prove you don't need it.

Make sure you DONT confirm that address!!

Sounds like they are trying to frighten you into paying, steer clear!!

    AMD

have a look on their website

    http://www.ccilegal.co.uk/international-debt-recovery/

The International section makes interesting reading, from the sounds of it they cannot pursue you in this country for the debt, but that wont stop them from trying!! Beside they are working on a No Win No Fee basis for their clients. so in their best interest to win, as the client wont be paying them a bean otherwise.
    Debt Free!!!
  • Or you could man up and pay your debts. Someone is out of pocket because of your behaviour. Just because you didn't put your hands in a till, doesn't mean you're not a thief.

They are chasing for debt on a car that i left there outside the actual dealership after making 9 months of payments!

I dont know if you are aware but there is no employment law in dubai- when you lose your job they freeze your bank account and request your passport to cancel your visa-they leave you very little choice than to leave!! They dont accept 'im looking for another job'. I was completely up to date on the £600 monthly payments when i left and also handed car back and posted the keys!!

Maybe Dubai shouldnt insist on 12 months rent upfront on property- making the only option to get a bank loan-which they throw at you! no credit checks- nothing- same as with this car- they lend up to 60k just like that so long as you have a salary slip. Some people go to Dubai just for that reason!- take money and run. I didnt do that. Dubai make themselves out of pocket-not exactly sensible is it???? Have a go at some people who really have taken mick instead!

Get you facts straight please before you judge

Have you tried posting on some of the expat forums for Dubai? Perhaps someone would be able to help you? We live in Dubai but have no loans because of the lack of emoloyment laws here, we do know of someone who left but they are paying the debt back now from the US.

I know you never intend to return here ( don't blame you - not as fabulous a place as it would like to think it is!) but if you were on a plane and it had to divert to any middle East country you may find yourself in trouble.

But my facts are straight. You signed a legally binding contract that you have done a runner from. Just because Dubai insist on 12 months rent up front blah blah has absolutely no bearing on this, or is that how you justify your theft?

A car that i paid for fully while there-and when left I gave it back, like thousands of others. I no longer have the car they want payment for- THEY have it.
