Best of luck with it. Alex Easton should find it easy enough to find out if it was adopted by Roads Service. I would very much doubt it. In my experience they don't adopt areas such as this with planting beds and trees. The exception is grass areas in sight lines and along roads, and you would be surprised just how much that costs to cut each year. It is probably Housing Executives Grounds maintenance responsibility (or whatever they call themselves now). I assume that the Housing Executive cut the grass all around it. A bloke with a power washer would make a big difference there in a matter of hours.0 -
To be honest, I think that type of paving is put in where they want some plant growth through it! There is a clear path between the planters so why not walk on that instead?0

The green is moss which is covering the paviers which have been concreted between the cracks.
The area is the main cut thru for the houses at the bottom of the main cul-de-sac down to the town,so it's not as simple as that, you can see from the picture where people have worn a path away in the moss, which is much worse now than when I took the picture,so your suggestion doesn't hold water, sorry.
Besides,it's not 'plant growth' as such,it's a bloody eyesore & very slippy when it's wet. It's also spreading between the cracks in the slabs as well.
They come round & make a half hearted attempt at spraying weed killer from the back of them quad bikes & cut the grass & that's all they do!0 -
In the photo you can see that the green moss and algae is spreading on to the path, near the houses where people walk..now surely that is cause for concern in itself.Pity you couldnt send the photo to the council.I have a feeling that they are the ones who are really responsible for ensuring this is kept clean.Spike the flowerbeds look exactly like the ones in the memorial park here in Larne. The same shape and design and is the council who have the responsibility for it.The algae and moss will just keep on spreading by the looks of it.God knows what it will be like if it snows. This will make it even worse.0

Thanks Hazel,Alex Easton has copies of the photo's.The moss has only really appeared since they started building on what was once feilds less than 100 yards away,my car's often covered with dust & other !!!! so I'm wondering if it's came from the site & blown over.0

That area of your's needs a good power wash and some chemical to kill off the moss and algae........same as my yard:D0 -
Agree with Hazel. It is just moss. Likes a bit of shade and shelter under the trees and that paving allows plenty of sheltered cracks to get established in. On the photo you can see it also on the ordinary paving slabs especially at the joints.
If anyone wants to grow moss in the garden over rocks etc. add some moss to 1/2 tea spoon of sugar and buttermilk (or beer) blend the mixture and apply to the surface on which you want moss.[STRIKE]Less is more.[/STRIKE] No less is Less.0 -
