I haven't tried Tesco value ones, but the last time I got really cheap ones, they broke after 1 trip.

  • Dont buy them.
I have a thing about suitcases. I bought some suitcases from Tescos 18 monts ago, used them once on a BA flight to Malaga, when they came off at the carasol, all 4 looked as though they were coffins. I marched straight up to C/S at the airport who offered to repair them as they could see they were new.
After much arguing and me refusing to spend a day of my holiday having suitcases repaired they replaced them
I recived 4 top of the range Antler suitcases foc.
When we got home I went into Tescos with the offending suitcases were the SA very striaght faced asked if I had taken them on a plane.
When I told her yes she told me that they were not meant for that sort of rough handling. That took the wind out of my sils, however there was another customer in the queue with the same offending suitcases which were the same shape.
You get what you pay for. Look at Argos you might get a good deal.

We have had 2 cheap suitcases written off by airlines.
We have had 1 samsonite case repaired.

I guess it depends on which route you can go down.
You can either get cheap cases and chuck them or get expensive ones and get them repaired.
Either way make sure you buy some with an approved repairer close by.
Even if you are not having it repaired them you may still need a letter to say it's "beyond economical repair".

Our last buy was some Antler suitcases.
Partly because there is a repairer conveniently close so if we have any problems in the future we don't end up driving 50 miles to get it sorted.
(Dont' forget that you will have to drop off the suitcase and then pick it up, so 2 trips in total).

BTW - it's also a good idea to keep receipts for suitcases.

I got a Tesco value case in an emergency last year paid £12.99 for it. Used it for one trip and it was already coming apart so we dumped it. Previously I had the mixed fabric/hard top set of 3 also from Tesco, after one holiday the large one was already coming apart so exchanged them and same thing happened again. Try TK Maxx, they have some good quality ones quite reasonable, you just have to be lucky they have the sizes you need.
